News from Panther Headquarters
October 2020
From the desk of the Principal...
Hello Panther Families –
I would like to give a Big Shout Out to our students, families, and teachers. 2020 has been a year like to other for all of us. We understand the challenges that families are facing during this non-traditional school year, and we will continue to show grace for those who need it most. We ask that you do the same for our teachers as they are working more hours than ever before to ensure that both virtual and in person students are afforded educational opportunities to learn and grow. If you have questions about your child’s learning, I urge you to reach out to your teachers as well as have frequent conversations with your child to ensure he/she is not only doing and turning in their work, but are learning the content. Fostering Agency to empower ALL students is part of our Mission Statement at HIJH, and we need students to own their learning in partnership with their teachers to ensure they are getting the most out of their education. Please continue to stay safe, wear your masks, and support one another. Proud to be a Panther!
Respectfully,
Tim A. Mankin

Counselor's Corner
HIJH Student Services often received information from outside resources which may benefit the needs of our families. The counselors often compile a list of available resources in the event families ask for such information. Resources may include: Food pantries, clothing distributers, prevention programs, and grief and loss counseling/therapy. If you choose to seek outside services and would like to view the information that we have available, please contact us at your convenience. All requests are kept confidential.
Planning for the Future. Getting one’s thoughts in order is a good start for planning the future. Simply sitting down with your child and asking, “What do you think you want to do with your life?” is a great way to start planning. Promote conversations that focus on where your child wants to be academically and what their career interests might be at this time. Take a half hour every other week to research some of the careers of interest discussed, as well as colleges, universities, and vocational school that support such careers. Simply open the door to future planning; you may be amazed at what you find!
Address and Bus Changes. Anyone requesting new bus transportation for their child, due to a move to a new home, must provide proof of residency to the attending school to make this change. Residency documents needed are posted on the corporation website under “Meet HSE”, then “Enrollment , then Step 2, click on Residency Documents. Once documents are provided to the school, new bus information will be provided to you and will be available on Skyward within a 24-hour timeframe.
