Stop, Look, Listen: Helping Students Spot The Fakes: PD Event
In August, 2021, the State of Illinois enacted groundbreaking legislation requiring the teaching of news literacy at every public high school. This represents an incredible opportunity for school librarians to partner with teachers to help future generations become media-savvy and disinformation-aware. Geared toward school librarians and teachers of K-12 but relevant to public librarians as well, you’ll leave this session ready to create easy-to-understand FAQ sheets and toolkits for spotting fake news and identifying quality content that can be implemented immediately. We’ll also talk about ways to build your network to position yourself as integral to news media efforts at your school or organization.
Topics:
- how to use a three-step process to navigate the fake news landscape
- how to teach students to use that process to evaluate information
- how to recognize fake tweets, fake videos, and fake photos
- how to understand the more rigorous process needing in evaluating medical info information
Tuesday, Nov 16, 2021 - 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
One PDH credit will be available through AISLE for attending the live session.
This webinar will be recorded and posted to the RAILS CE Archives page approximately one week from the air date.

We've Got Questions-You Have Answers
-An informal series of surveys just because we're curious. Some may be serious and some may be silly, but either way watch for a summary of responses in the next AISLE Update! This week's question:
Per student, how many print volumes do you have on the shelves in your library/ libraries?
If you have an idea for a survey, please send it to newsletter@aisled.org
