News from Lions Park School
Letter from the Lions Park Principal
On March 20th, you will have the opportunity to consider a tax rate referendum. This is your opportunity to help determine the future of District 57. Please consider attending one of the upcoming community forums to learn more. The flyer below shares information about these sessions that will be held at Westbrook School on February 1st and March 1st at 7pm.
This month we have experienced weather that has spanned a more than fifty degree range with both rain and snow. Please help your children to select appropriate clothing each day. We send students outside when the "feels like" temperature is 16 degrees or higher. The office staff checks websites, such as www.weather.com and www.weatherbug.com to check the temperature. This is the same temperature used at the other D57 schools. When we do send students out, the playground can sometimes be very wet or muddy so boots and snowpants can be a good idea even when there is not snow on the ground. We do not have enough spare clothes for many wet students, so consider sending spare pants and socks in the backpack if your child doesn't wear snowpants or boots.
We appreciate the ongoing support you give your children at home. We know that sometimes providing math assistance can be a challenge. Our MSS (Math Support Services) teacher, Mrs. Cotner, recently shared this site with the staff. You can find information on bar modeling www.mathplayground.com . For information on how to do bar modeling for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions, click on "StoryMath" and then click on one of the boxes on the top row to indicate the types of problems you and your child are solving.
Warmly,
Katie Kelly
Principal
