Thank you!
In addition to our current fundraising goal of nearly $34,000 to support teacher grants, PE/recess equipment and dozens of school programs and events, we have a lofty goal this year of raising an additional $18,000 to replace old computers - ensuring every grade level has an available set.
We are almost 25% of the way toward our fundraising goal of nearly $52,000 this year for Holcomb! Please look out for our upcoming events and spread the word about all the different ways you can help us reach our goal.
PTA hosted the annual Jogathon Fundraiser on Friday, September 27th. The sun was shining, the music was playing and the kids were in high spirits as they hit the track. Kidathons returned again this year and counted laps for us while parents, teachers, and staff cheered on the runners. This fundraiser is our biggest one of the year. Thank you for supporting Holcomb!
Each student who returned money (no matter the amount) received a reusable Holcomb Hero straw (with a cleaner). Students also earned one raffle ticket for every $10 they raised. Raffle prizes were donated by Oaks Park, Bullwinkle’s, Sky High, Cody Howell of Edward Jones, Papa Murphy’s, and Wilco. The top 12 earners (and their guest) enjoyed a pizza/ice cream party.
Box Tops has raised $96.60 so far this year!
800 clipped and 166 electronic.
Thank you and please keep clipping or scanning those Box Tops!

Principal's Corner
Greetings Holcomb Families,
I am pleased to report to you that we are off to a very nice start for the 2019-2020 school year. The air is chilly and crisp. Fall has arrived our students are settling into the routines of school. They are making friends and building relationships with their teachers. My favorite part of the day is when our children arrive at school. They are full of energy and ready to learn. On the walls, in the hallways, and in classrooms I can already see evidence of rigorous learning in our classrooms. Student writing, scientific inquiry, and math problem solving are only a few examples of the topics that our students are already engaged in. Our teachers are committed to providing quality instruction while also making sure that our students are enjoying school. I cannot wait to see the academic growth that our students will make this year. In November, at parent-teacher conferences, we will share what that early growth looks like and what you can expect from your child throughout the rest of this year.
Each of our students come to school with unique personalities, diverse cultural backgrounds, and varying interests. We know that race, gender, language, religion, physical ability, economics and family structure all contribute to the identity of each of our students. At Holcomb, we value each student. We honor who they are and who they are becoming! We know that relationships are the foundation for learning. We strive to build authentic and supportive relationships between teachers and students as well as positive peer relationships. We know that quality instruction matters! Our teachers participate in professional learning regularly so they have the most effective instructional techniques at their fingertips to use in their classrooms.
We encourage families to be active participants in our school community. You can support your child’s relationship with their teacher by explaining that school rules and expectations should be followed. It is important that children see and hear that their parents support their teachers. Communication is very important. You know your child the best. Research shows that when schools and families work together then children benefit. Together we can make Holcomb the BEST school for our children to learn and grow in! Please contact us should you have any concerns, questions, or comments. Teacher hours are 7:30-3:30. Teachers can be contacted by phone or e-mail. You can also call our school office and we will direct you to the teacher. 503-785-8100 Sincerely, Kelli Rhea
