New Era News
For the Week of March 23, 2020
A Note from the Principal
Dear families,
As we navigate through these unique times, I just want to take a moment to say thank you. The past few days have given all of us challenges we probably never expected to have to overcome, yet here we are. Shout out the the staff at Shelby Public Schools for being all in and doing their best for our students. Also, thank you to you, our families, for being gracious, patient, and working with us through these times. I read a quote from Mr. Rogers that said this..."When I was a boy and I would see scary things on the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people helping'." It is certainly promising to see the many helpers in our commumity.
Moving forward, it is difficult to predict what is next and to answer all the questions that we may have. We will continue to do our best to share information as we get it, knowing that the health and safety of our community is always first priority. We will share this information a variety of ways: email, newsletters, powerschool messages, and social media. Please be sure to follow New Era Elementary on facebook, as this is a great source to receive daily information and fun ways for us all to stay connected during these times.
In this newsletter, you will find a variety of resources and enrichment ideas to help you and your child stay engaged in the learning process. These resources are meant to provide support not stress. Please know that we understand each family has unique needs and demands being placed on them at this time. The most important thing we can communicate is to take time to be present with one another. Our students feel our stress and the last thing we want is to add to it. Our goal is by providing these resources, you and your child might have an opportunity to laugh, learn, and be creative together. This also can be accomplished by doing puzzles, reading books, taking hikes (while practicing social distancing, of course), creating gratitude journals, drawing, singing, dancing, cooking family meals together, and more. Our wish is that this time is a time to refuel, refresh, and refocus.
Report cards were scheduled to go out today. Due to these extenuating circumstances, we have opted to wait so we can give you a more accurate picture of your child's learning progress. If you have any questions or concerns on this, please free free to send me an email.
At this point in time, school is scheduled to return to session on Monday, April 6. Should this change, we will communicate to you as soon as we know.
Finally, we will get through this....together. Thank you for being partners in your child's education.
Sincerely,
Jenn Schultz
