Donations Needed for Socktober
Socktober has begun! Expect Respect's first community project of the school year is a sock drive to help people experiencing homelessness. During the month of October we are hosting a sock and toiletries drive called Socktober! We are collecting new socks (adult and kids) and new/unused toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, wipes, deodorant, brushes/combs, toothpaste and toothbrushes). We are NOT asking for food, water, blankets, or other clothing items for this drive. Please drop off any donations in the Socktober boxes at the front of the school. Expect Respect has contacted a couple of shelters in San Jose and they are very excited to be receiving our donations. Let's make this a great Socktober by helping those in need.
Crazy Sock Day is November 2nd
STEAM NIGHT Big Hit
It was wonderful to see people of all ages enjoying STEAM Night at Carlton on October 9th. Students and parents were quite busy making and testing the Robo Wheels, Puff Rockets, and Flying Hoop Gliders. We are so grateful to all the volunteers from Carlton, Union Middle School, and Branham High School. Special thanks to District Coordinator, Michael Stock, and STEAM TOSA, Kristy Chia, for organizing this event!
Thank You Mr. Bafetti!
Parents in STEAM Careers Needed
We are looking for Carlton parents that work in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and/or Math (STEAM) fields that would be interested in participating in a STEAM career event/fair. It is so valuable for our young students to see what STEAM job opportunities in the bay area look like and hear from real STEAM professionals in our very own community!
If you are interested in participating in Carlton Avenue School's STEAM Career Event, please complete this form by October 30th. Once we have collected forms from all interested parents we will begin organizing the event based on the feedback we receive.
Lockdown Drill
There will be a lockdown drill on October 25th in order to practice specific lockdown procedures. A lockdown is necessary If a dangerous person enters our campus. We will not talk to students about shooters because this may cause unnecessary anxiety. Discussions will focus on the importance of being prepared for different unexpected dangerous situations. Please talk with your child in advance if you think the lockdown drill will be stressful for your child.
Halloween Parade
The Halloween parade will be on Wednesday, October 31st. Students in grades 1-5 will have a parade at 8:30 am on the intermediate playground. Students in TK and Kindergarten will have a parade at 10:50 am on the primary playground. Students can wear their costumes to school. Please do not send any scary or bloody masks or weapon-like props to school. If you have any concerns or questions about costumes, please contact the office. Students should come to school in their costumes.
Substitute Teachers Needed
Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of students? Then substitute teaching may be the right job for you! Union School District is seeking kind and compassionate people to join our team of substitute teachers. As a substitute, you can set your own schedule, gain valuable classroom experience, and enjoy a great source of supplemental income. If you would like to learn more about becoming a substitute teacher, please contact Lenette Solis at the District Office (solisl@unionsd.org or 408-377-8010).
