TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
“Teachers change the lives of millions of children every day—their immense work and impact moves us beyond words. With the abrupt end to the physical school year, our teachers have done even more to continue education with virtual classrooms and learning at home lessons. All to ensure every student has the tools they need to reach their full potential.
It's in these challenging times that we truly recognize and appreciate how our nation’s educators play such a pivotal role in our children’s lives—inspiring a lifelong love of learning and discovery and making a difference in their well-being and long-term success.” – National PTA
TUESDAY, MAY 5, 2020
Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. The day, which falls on Tuesday, May 5 in 2020, is also known as Battle of Puebla Day. While it is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations. Our Empowered Bobcats!!! Parents it has been another great week at Burchett! This upcoming week will launch PBL 2 which has a STEM focus.
We want to encourage our parents to use Schoology to submit student assignments. We have found it very helpful to download the Schoology app for submitting assignments from your phone. Below is a video on the app.
Meal Distribution days will continue this week! Please see detailed information in this newsletter.
Last but not least, we would like to wish all of the mothers out there a very Happy Mothers' Day! We appreciate all that you do for our Bobcats, and we hope your day is special and filled with love.

Spring ISD Free Meal Distribution on Mondays and Wednesdays
Free meal pick up will continue on Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the following sites. Bailey, Booker, Clark Primary, Claughton, McNabb, Reynolds and Westfield. Evening pick up will be available at Bailey, Claughton and Westfield from 4 to 6 p.m.
Please be reminded: Spring ISD employees will only place bagged meals in the trunks or hatches of vehicles to maximize social distancing and ensure the health and safety of all employees and families. No meals will be distributed through vehicle windows, and we ask that drivers go through the line, keep their windows closed and simply pop their trunk or hatch.
Employees will visually look into the closed vehicles to determine the number of children present to receive meals. On Mondays, students will receive meals for Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, students will receive meals for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Remember, federal regulations mandate that children 18 or under must be present in the vehicle to receive meals.

CenterVention on Coping with Worry and Fear
"There are a lot of heavy things going on in our world today, and even though we try our hardest to shelter our children, they are going to worry. But, pretending that worries and fears don’t exist is the opposite of what we should be doing. In fact, encouraging kids to talk about what’s frightening them and validating them, helps tremendously."
