BBHMS Gives
The holiday season can be the most exciting time of the year, especially for children. Sadly, many families will be gathering for the holidays in a strangely quiet fashion without all of the family, food, gifts and space to gather together. Unwrapping a new toy allows children to enjoy a happy distraction during their stay at RB&C. Our generous donations provide a scared child waiting for treatment, surgery or who is recovering to experience happiness and play during challenging times.

Advice from 8th Graders
We asked several 8th graders for some advice about the middle school and here is what we found out.
Kitty Still's advice to 6th grader is ....."Strive for good grades. Be a friends to everyone one but don't be everyone's friend. Give back to others and make someone's day everyday." Kitty gave this advice because she learned from her own experience that it’s good to have good grades and get your assignments done on time. It’s also good to make someone else feel good and to give back to others.
Leah Spacek said ....“Try not to procrastinate. Its ok to be yourself. Join band and other fun clubs and activities. If your voice cracks in class its okay it's actually funny, so don’t get embarrassed. Also, if you like something, do it.”
Rachel Rosselot suggested...." Don't go on your computer in the hallway, don't run in the hallways. Get good study habits."
Adam Berchtold told us.....“Make friends that will treat you nicely, don't be in the popular groups wait till you get to 8th grade to choose something you love. Don't let people tell you how to be.”
Tyler Hulteen said.... “It's harder than Central and study for tests!”
Andrew Szopo's advice is "You always have to pay attention but if you don't pay attention you fall behind."

Book Corner
For this month, I’m reviewing a book called Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. This is a very intense book taking place in a fantasy world called the Grishaverse. I read this last year and it has quickly become one of my favorite books and I’m sure any fantasy lovers out there will love it as well!!
To start with, this book had a very interesting plot. It’s about a ruthless and apathetic criminal named Kaz Brekker who is given the opportunity to get rich if he successfully captures the creator of this insane drug with the potential to wipe out everyone. The book follows the characters Kaz, Inej, Nina, Jesper, and Wylan on their journey as they attempt to find this mysterious person and have to face struggles, mentally and physically along the way. This is a really deep book with incredibly eloquent writing and an intriguing, complete storyline. It is currently a part of a duology (two books), followed by it’s sequel, Crooked Kingdom and the potential of even getting a third book. It is the second book in Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse, with the Shadow and Bone trilogy occuring before it.
This book is slightly long, making it the perfect thing to keep you busy during winter break. It also will keep you invested and constantly wondering what may happen next with cliffhangers and interesting characters. There is also incredible world-building, which paints a picture of a beautiful world you’ll want to enter yourself. Overall, the book Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is incredible and something that I feel people would like.

Winter World Records
Many of us dream to someday break a state, national, or even world record. Here is a list of the top five records set in winter:
World’s Largest Snowman- Bethel, Maine
Quite the sight for tourists, Olympia the snowwoman stood just over 122 feet tall. Townspeople used real trees for arms, car tires for buttons, and skis for eyelashes.
Oldest Skier- Lou Batori, age 107
Lou Batori had learned to ski at the age of 10. Though he passed away in early months of 2018, the 107 year old left behind a legacy for many to follow.
Lowest temperature recorded on Earth- Soviet Vostok Station in Antarctica
Since 1983, this record for the lowest temperature ever recorded, -128.6°F, has stood unbroken.
Longest wishlist to Santa- Lapland, Finland
The longest wishlist to Santa was almost 4,000 meters long, and contained the wishes of 25,318 people; 75,954 in total.
Largest outdoor snowball fight- Saskatoon, Canada
It was quite the racket in 2016 when 7,681 people participated in a snowball fight. This was, strangely enough, to send off team Canada in a professional snowball fighting competition.
