Uplift Hampton Preparatory M.S.
2018-2019 Weekly Memo
PARENTS PLEASE TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN...
Dear Parents & Guardians-
In the news there has been a circulation of a new challenge entitled, the "Momo Challenge," which encourages and promotes self-harm on social media and YouTube sites. This is a hoax.
Though this is a hoax, I want to encourage you to talk with your children and discuss the importance of being a good digital citizen and alerting a trusted adult if inappropriate content is shared to any of their electronic devices.
Have regularly scheduled discussions to identify where your child is emotionally and socially. This will help to affirm their positive choices or deter them from making the wrong decision.
In an effort to help navigate any conversations with your child related to the Momo Challenge hoax or any additional concerns, please consider the following:
1. Have you seen anything online that has made you upset or worried about anyone or anything?
2. Be sure that they know that information online can be misleading, frightening, or there to gain an audience.
3. Make sure your child knows that it is inappropriate to communicate with strangers online and to make you aware if they have experienced such treatment.
Parents, it is important to us, that your children are safe. Please take the necessary steps to improve communication and understanding of making positive choices.
In Partnership,
Mrs. Parks
Middle School Director
