Alma School District Newsletter

SAFETY IS OUR MOST IMPORTANT FOCUS
Each day the Alma School District is entrusted with the safety of all students and staff. We take this responsibility seriously; the safety and security of our students and staff are at the forefront of every decision we make. A safe and secure environment is crucial for the well being and education of everyone on campus. We use a variety of methods and measures to ensure the safety of every individual on our campuses.
Each of our schools has a full time, certified and dedicated School Resource Officer. SRO Hutchinson (AHS), SRO N. Mahan (AMS), SRO Kimmons (AIS), and SRO S. Mahan (APS) work every day to protect and serve our students, staff, and community. We are very fortunate that The City of Alma and the Alma Police Department share our vision and work jointly with us to provide this very important service.
Our campuses are secure. All exterior and interior doors are locked during school hours. No one can enter the buildings without first being verified and admitted by the office staff. There are more than 200 cameras located inside and outside the buildings that are continuously monitored.
The district also provides ALICE training to all faculty and staff. ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) has become the accepted safety and security standard for schools, as opposed to the traditional “lockdown” only response.
In each school, we work regularly with students, discussing safety issues and practicing safety drills in an age appropriate manner in order to teach and reinforce quick and appropriate safety measures and evacuations. ALICE training and practice is ongoing every year for students as well as staff.
The Alma Safety Tip Line is always available at our website, mobile app, or the newsletter, and allows anyone to report any type of safety concern, at any time.
School safety and security is paramount and is a continuous process of evaluation that the Alma School District is committed to. We will always continue to reassess and address changing needs. Alma School District administrators are available at any time to discuss any school matters with you in person as well as by email or phone.
