GV-NB Coronavirus Response
April 24, 2020 Updates for the District 34 Community
A Message from District 34 Superintendent Dr. Dane Delli
Dear District 34 parents, staff and community members,
Last week’s news that schools will not reopen for in-person learning this school year, and yesterday’s extension of the statewide stay-at-home order through the month of May, adds challenges for so many, and sadness to us all. We miss being together. I’m so proud of the D34 E-Learning program, and thankful to our teachers, parents and students who are working together to make it a success. However, E-Learning does not replace the classroom experience, and we continue to look for ways to increase connections and meet the needs of all learners.
The extension of the stay-at-home order specifically allows schools to develop procedures for allowing building access for students and staff to pick up necessary items. The D34 leadership team is currently developing a pick-up process that follows the guidance of health and government officials and protects the safety and health of staff and families. We will share the dates, times and details when they are finalized.
Sincerely,
Dane A. Delli, Ph.D.
Superintendent
This week’s updates from the Glenview/Northbrook COVID-19 Task Force are brief but important. Please share this information and our website (glenviewnorthbrookcoronavirus.info) with your family, friends and neighbors.
Governor Extends Stay-at-Home Order
On Thursday, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced he will sign a modified version of the state’s stay-at-home order that will go into effect on May 1 and extend through the end of May. You can read the details of the order here. In summary, modifications in the new extended order will allow:
- Hospitals and surgi-centers to resume certain elective procedures
- Retail stores not considered essential to take orders online for pickup or delivery
- Greenhouses, nurseries and garden centers to open
- Some state parks to be reopened in phases for hiking, fishing and boating with no more than two people
- Schools to establish procedures and allow pick-up of necessary supplies and student belongings
All of our organizations will share the details of the impact of this order on our operations with our constituents in separate communications.
Statewide Face Covering Requirement
The Governor’s orders also will require individuals to wear a face covering when in a public place where they can't maintain a six-foot physical distance. The Illinois Department of Public Health recently shared this information on wearing masks and other face coverings.
Update From NorthShore University HealthSystem
NorthShore University HealthSystem reports that the percentage of positive COVID-19 test results is creeping up, in part because of the outreach that they are doing to encourage people who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 to be screened. The hospital system is increasing its direct engagement with senior care facilities, and is continuing its outreach to other organizations.
Those who show symptoms (listed on our website) should:
Call 847-HEALTH9 (847-432-5849) and talk to a NorthShore clinical expert; or
Log onto NorthShoreConnect through the app on your mobile device or on the website (www.northshoreconnect.org/immediatecare).
Community Needs
The Northfield Township Food Pantry continues to support those in need in our community, and the needs continue to grow. The Food Pantry is accepting donations and volunteers age 16 and up.
Resources for Support
We recognize that this pandemic is having an impact on the emotional and mental health of many of us. The Glenview Northbrook Coronavirus Response website includes links to many resources to support your mental health.
Good News Stories
If you follow any of us on our social media channels, you’ll get a healthy dose of stories that highlight the strength of our community and the boundless goodness of those who live and work here. We will share some of those stories here each week.
Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 Superintendent, Dr. Brian Wegley reports to staff, “As challenging as this time is, your work with our students is inspiring. I am also touched almost daily by caring acts in our community. One example was highlighted by the following email received by our administrative team:
“My name is Palak Shah, I am Ronir Patel’s (Maple School-6th) and Ariana Patel’s (Willowbrook School-3rd) mom and I’m a Healthcare worker in Surgery at Cook County Health. I have been meaning to email you this picture of my team of Residents. We are part of a group who were recent recipients of District 30’s generous donation of goggles that are keeping us safe!”
