Happenings...
Back when we were in school...
Last month, prior to Spring Break, we celebrated a couple of students chosen to be Students of the Month. For high school we celebrated Dylan Zimmerman, a sophomore, and for middle school we celebrated Koda Balleck, an 8th grader.
We also ended a phenomenal basketball season for our middle and high school girls' basketball teams. Our middle school girls ended with a "district champion" title, and our high school girls finished in a nail biting playoff game that nearly took them to the state playoffs.
Our theatre department hosted a fantastic production of Suessical the Musical early in the month of March as well!
And now...
We are experiencing something far different than ever experienced in my many years with Hayden schools. Online distance learning! Learning at home! It came so quickly and so unexpectedly for all of us. I would be hugely wrong if I started by saying, "It's okay!" We all know that right now it is not okay. However, in the midst of the newness, uncertainty and possible chaos there is a light. We, the whole nation, are in this together. Every teacher has worked so hard to create learning in a new platform for their students. Students are having to see their teachers through virtual meetings and complete assignments at home from a computer. Parents are struggling to fill the role of "teacher" and in many cases also the working parent. I know it is not easy. I know it is not preferred. And I know our teachers, in Hayden, are making the best of this uncertain circumstance. I am so proud of every person working toward the successful, continued education of our students. Right now it is not okay, but as we continue to support each other, it will become a bit easier. We miss our students. We miss the normalcy of school every day. Students miss the social aspects that school offers. Parents miss teachers teaching from the school building. It is not ideal, but it is something we will do together. We will keep you informed of changes in regulation and our district as they arise. Please be patient , be supportive of your son or daughter, ask for help when you need it, and remember that we are all doing the best we can.
Please remember the importance and priority we have placed on the continued education of our students. We, as a teaching staff, make adjustments on a regular basis to ensure success, but make every decision and adjustment with educational priority in mind. Our students are responsible for completing tasks to the best of their ability, and our teachers are responsible for providing learning and support for our students.
On April 3rd, Hayden joined in #BeTheLightCo by lighting our football field lights to show our support for our students, staff, and community.
Things to come...
April is Autism Awareness Month - many of us have shown our support by shining our blue lights proudly on our porches!
