Team 2021 Hopes You Have a Safe, Restful, and Happy WINTER BREAK
New BHS Cafe Opens January 7, 2020
When students return after Winter Break, the new BHS Cafe will be open. BHS-TV took students on a tour of the new Cafe to prepare them for the new choices when they return. You can view the menus here: http://brownsburg.k12.in.us/nutrition-services
Final Exam Alert
- Start studying for finals the first day of the semester by constantly reviewing information.
- Create a study schedule that includes breaks and small rewards.
- Use study guides if the teachers provide them.
- Practice self-care when feeling the stress. This means that students should exercise, make health food choices, and find ways to relax.
- Talk with your teachers about the test. It's okay to ask them on what topics you should focus.
- Prioritize your studying. This means spend the most time of the subjects with which you struggle the most.
At the end of S1, there will ONLY be 3 semesters left until GRADUATION! Do Your BEST and EARN Your Credits

21st Century Scholar Update
Did you know that Team 2021 has 121 Scholars between BHS and Harris Academy? Mr. Douglas and Mrs. Mehrtens met with their Scholars on December 11th to ensure they are making progress on their ScholarTrack activities. Junior Year requirements are listed below, and the completion of each task MUST be entered in ScholarTrack.
- Visit a College Campus.
- Take a College Entrance Exam (ACT/SAT)
- Search for Scholarships

Senior Year Work-Based Learning
There are three options:
1. Professional Career Internship Program- Typically unpaid internship
2. Cadet Teaching-Partner with a Brownsburg Teacher
3. School-to-Work- Paid Positions
Program Prerequisites:
- Teacher recommendation
- Completed Application-Provided by counselor during scheduling
- Senior Year only
- Excellent attendance, great attitude, hard worker
Program Basics:
- Counts as elective credit
- MUST leave school to participate for TWO periods a day
- Must try to find own placement
- Full year program (2 semesters)
- Must complete several forms to verify insurance, parental consent, and employer consent (due the first week of senior year)
- There is a classroom component
- Must hold a valid driver's license and provide own transportation
- Turned in weekly timesheets
- Site visits with program coordinator will take place periodically
Summer College for High School Students at Purdue University
Experience the excitement of college life, take courses with world-renowned faculty, explore academic majors, and put yourself on a pathway for success! Taking online or on-campus courses during summer allows high school students age 16 and older to experience college life by completing coursework alongside current undergraduate students.
- Take real college courses in the module that best fits your needs.
- 1-week, 4-week, 8-week, and 12-week.
- Students may live on campus during the 1-week modules and the last 4-week module.
- Fun-Sized Residential Options
- Purdue University is excited to offer six intensive 1-week, 1-credit opportunities for high school students during Summer 2020. Move-in and orientation for each experience will occur on Sunday and class sessions will begin on Monday. Parents are invited to attend a closing session on Friday prior to move-out.
- Apply now! Application opened December 2, 2019.
- Students must be at least 16 years old, have completed their sophomore year of high school, and have a GPA of at least 3.30 at the time the class begins to be eligible for the program.
- Priority application deadline is March 1, 2020.
- Courses are permanently listed on a Purdue transcript and can be transferred to other institutions.
- Attending this program does not give students an advantage in the admissions process.
