It's the Final Countdown!
We have enjoyed a steady stream of teachers returning over the last few weeks to get their classrooms just right. Carpets have been washed and floors waxed, bulletin boards are getting beautified, and bookshelves stocked with new workbooks. We hope you are as excited as we are?!
Make sure to read below for lots of details about next week.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR NEXT WEEK
First Day of School : FAQ
- Dress Uniforms! For the first day of school, we will start in our dress uniforms. Don't forget: our Fall/Spring Uniform code is in effect, so polo shirts and shorts are ok. **Mondays and Fridays are PE days this year, and students are asked to wear PE uniforms on those days, so please make sure your children are prepared. If you have dress code questions, please feel free to contact the office or visit our website for details.
- We will gather outside. The faculty and staff will be outside to greet you at 8:15am on the first day of school. Please gather on the blacktop in front of the Youth Center for our opening day.
- Kindergarten Families are invited to walk their children to class after our outdoor gathering.
- Pre-school Families- again, your children will start school on Tuesday, September 4th. On Tuesday, please walk your children inside and drop them off in their classroom.
- If you have classroom specific questions regarding the first day of school, please contact your child's classroom teacher.
- ***There will be NO before care and NO after care on the first day of school, Thursday, August 30th.***
Daily School Routines
- PE is on Monday and Friday this year. Unless otherwise noted, please come in your PE uniforms on those days.
- Drop off is at 8:15 daily. If you arrive at school after 8:25, you are considered tardy and must stop by the office to check in before going to your classroom.
- Pick up is at 3:10 daily. Please meet your children outside on the blacktop by the Youth Center.
- School lunch can be ordered daily from your homeroom teacher or the office.
Parking Lot
There is no "drop off" line at SMS. You MUST park to let your children disembark for school. Stopping in front of the door causes a back-up of traffic on Walnut Street, and in some cases causes others to be late. Please be conscientious and pull into a parking space to let your children out. Thank you!
Please come visit our newly launched website!
As the halls and classrooms fill with students for the year, we will begin to upload new images and content for you to enjoy. The new SMS website is built on a Word Press platform with a CMS system and technology which will allow us to add the features and functionality it will need to serve SMS students and families as our school continues to grow.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Drum Creative for aiding Saint Michael School in the development of this vibrant new website.

- Weeding around the school, or planting in our garden beds.
- Bag up clothing from the lost and found and bring the bags to a Planet Aid drop box.
- We need someone with carpentry skills to install shelving in a closet for our PreK class.
- We need someone with organization skills to tackle a storage closet with seasonal decorations, costumes, and other odds and ends.
- Volunteer your time or donate food to be sold on Saturday, September 29th at the Welcome Center, a great opportunity for fundraising for the school!
- Help us prepare for the Super Raffle and Fall Harvest on Friday, October 26th.
- We have recruited a wonderful new Boxtops coordinator! Join her in jump-starting a new initiative for the year?
- We need someone to be the coordinator for the Hannaford Helps Schools fundraiser, simply collecting and depositing 'school dollars' by December 1st.
- Finally, don't forget to check in with your teachers next Wednesday night to see how you can be helpful in their classroom during the year.
Welcome Back Ice Cream Social
Come catch up with your classmates,
meet your teachers,
and pick up your Orientation packet and Super Raffle tickets.
If you'd like, bring your student supplies and lighten your load for Thursday morning.
This is a night you won't want to miss! After you have met your teachers and collected your information packets, please head outside and enjoy a colorful shaved ice or ice cream treat in the parking lot from Kona Ice of NH. After the heat and humidity of this summer, we agreed that having the ice cream truck come back would be a great way to kick off the school year.
