Community for Kids
Dear Stanley Families:
We are excited to offer a great community resource through our partnership with Community for Kids.
Community for Kids is a local non-profit organization that has the mission “to alleviate food insecurity for students in the Blue Valley Community by providing weekend food packs”.
Here’s how it works: if your family chooses to participate in the program you sign up by emailing Kaitlyn Dobratz, School Social Worker at Stanley Elementary. Then, each week any child in your family ages pre-school through middle school is eligible to receive a weekend food pack throughout the school year. There is no cost to participate in the program and participation is voluntary. Community for Kids and Blue Valley are currently working out the details to deliver the packs each week to the school.
If you would like your family to participate in the weekend food pack program, please notify Mrs. Dobratz via email (kdobratz@bluevalleyk12.org) or by calling Mrs. Dobratz at 913-239-7223.
Bad Weather Dismissal Protocol
When there is a change of weather during dismissal time, there may be a slight delay in the release of our students.
When we are experiencing heavy rains in the area, the following dismissal procedures will be followed.
Car riders will be dismissed as normal, however, it may take a little longer to load our students into the car.
Bus riders will be loaded a bus at a time.
Walkers/Bikers: **** Biggest change*** We know that some of our students have quite a distance to walk in the afternoons and the safety of our students is of the utmost importance. Parents are able to make a change to a student's mode of dismissal by contacting the front office by phone at 913-239-7200..
Notes from the Nurse:
Health Files:
Immunizations, Physical Assessments, and Birth Certificates are past due. These forms are needed to attend school and can be emailed, faxed, or brought into the office.
Change of clothes:
Please have your child keep weather appropriate change of clothes in their backpack. If a spill, mess, or bathroom accident occurs during the school day your child can then quickly change into their own clothes and return to class.
Wish List:
Boys size 10 and up shorts or pants.

GAME DAY ATMOSPHERE - FOOTBALL SEASON
Blue Valley high schools are excited to have your families come to support their high school activities and athletics this school year. We are asking our parent community to partner with us as we work to encourage a positive atmosphere for our high school games or events.
- Sportsmanship/officials: We want to give our student athletes the opportunity to play as many games as possible and we need officials to make those games happen. With a local and national shortage of officials, we want to make sure officials continue to choose to work Blue Valley events. The number one way we can create a welcoming environment is for spectators, coaches and student athletes to be courteous and respect the official’s decisions.
- Tailgating: Tailgating before games has become a tradition for many students and families. We love to see our community gathering together to enjoy food and tailgate games in our parking lots. As a reminder, alcohol and tobacco are not allowed on district property including parking lots.
- Elementary and middle school students: We are asking that all elementary and middle school students enter the game with an adult and sit with that adult throughout the game. Please do not drop your child off at a district event without supervision as they will not be allowed to enter. It is challenging to monitor and keep all students safe without the help of our parent community.
Thank you for your help in making our district events a great experience for all who attend. We hope to see your family cheering for our Blue Valley teams this school year.
High school game and events
Blue Valley families,
We are excited to have your families come to support our high school activities and athletics. It is great to see the entire community at these events. It is imperative that our parent community partner with us as we work to encourage positive elementary and middle school behavior at high school games or events.

Safety and security for the 2022-23 school year
As we look forward to another school year, we know that safety and security is top of mind for students, staff and families. Making sure our school is as safe as possible during the school day is a responsibility we take seriously.
We want to remind families of the physical security measures and practices we have in place at Heartland to protect what we value most - our students and staff.

Providing a safe and secure school is a conversation that has no end. Our safety and security team is always researching, exploring and collaborating with local jurisdictions and national experts on how to keep everyone safe and secure during the school day.
At Stanley, safety is a shared responsibility and each member of our school community plays an important role in being attentive and reporting concerning behaviors. If you see something, say something.
As always, thank you for partnering with us and supporting our commitment to safety and security beginning with the first day of school. More information about safety and security in Blue Valley is available on the district’s website.
Nut-Safer Snacks at Stanley
Daily Snacks: Thank you for your support of our nut-safer snack plan at Stanley. As a reminder: we ask that ALL daily snacks (i.e. snack time) for ALL students must come from the nut-safer food list as we have a significant number of students with life-threatening nut allergies. (click below for the link) Our continued focus this year, as an entire school, is to remain consistent on the daily snacks for student snack time in the classrooms—following the nut-safer list.
Please click HERE to access the Nut-Safer food list.
Attendance Reporting and Notifications
Families can expect automated attendance messages by email, phone, and text if a child is absent and their absence has not already been reported by a parent/guardian. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to report an absence or reply to the automated email or phone message. These automated messages will be sent at 9:35am beginning 8/18/2022.
What is the purpose of attendance notifications?
We realize that students may occasionally need to miss school for planned absences, illnesses, and appointments. However, when a student does not arrive at school or unexpectedly misses a portion of the school day, we are concerned and want to make sure you are aware that your child is absent.
How can I get push notifications?
Families who would also like a push notification can download the ParentVUE app and manage their notifications. If a child has an unreported absence when a teacher submits attendance, then a push notification will immediately be sent to the parent/guardian's mobile device.
Interested in push notifications? Simply download the ParentVUE app (iTunes app store or Google Play), enable push notifications in device settings and select attendance notifications through in-app settings. Once the app is downloaded, these instructions will help you complete the set-up.Sign Up for Bus Alerts
