Dr. Hudson's Message to Families
April 11, 2022
Dear Cedar Hill ISD Families,
I want to start this week's message with a SAFE LONGHORN update. The majority of Cedar Hill ISD scholars are getting it right. They are attending class regularly, adhering to the Longhorn Essentials and working with our teachers to ensure they are ready for the next grade level. Still social media timelines tell a bleak story of a small portion of our student body who are not.
CHHS, like many schools in the DFW area, is experiencing an uptick in fighting on campus; we have also witnessed scholars standing by, cheering on and even videotaping the fights. There will be consequences for students who videotape, post, or watch without reporting an altercation in progress.
CHISD is working to address the safety concerns on our campuses and we are collaborating with the City of Cedar Hill on strategies to improve safety. For example:
- Weapons offenses that occur in the neighborhood that could be tied to a scholar are reported to us and we collaborate with the city's police department
- Our campus leaders are on heightened awareness and working with CHISD PD to schedule random security checks (metal detectors & K9 searches) for the remainder of the school year
- We have partnered with the City of Cedar Hill to increase visibility after school at Virginia Weaver Park.
- We follow our Student Code of Conduct and every situation handled accordingly; but privacy laws often prohibit us from disclosing specific information on student discipline or the mental health and well-being of a student.
