A Great First Week!
From the Principal's Desk: Getting Back Into The Groove
As I have travelled the school, I have seen Ms. Clapp's 4th grade class taking her students out to the outdoor classroom, Ms. Fitzgerald's Kindergarten learning about their classroom and how its systems work, and the students in Mrs. Larocque's 2/3 class digging into reading and literacy. It's been wonderful to see Mrs. Rubright's 1st graders being incredibly mature, both as they work together and as they set a great example for our kindergarten. Mrs. Wisnowski's 5th grade class have been school leaders by modeling good playground behavior, hanging up our American flag every day, and working hard in the classroom.
Ms. Foster has been providing both academic interventions and behavioral supports, as well as teaching 3rd grade math. Amy Pyfrom, or special educator, has very thoughtfully constructed a schedule that meets student needs at both Salisbury and Ripton- quite a feat! This year all classes have library time with Ms. Sutton, and it is great to see students walking around with so many books! Ms. T. has gotten our students moving in PE, and Ms. Gombosi has had students think deeply about what it means to make a mistake in Art, and how useful mistakes can be. Ms. Elie has gotten the students right to work in Spanish, and it's been fun to see students re-activate their learning. Vicky Wideman has been providing tremendous support in her role as our school-based clinician, as has Nancy Velez in our library. Suzie Quesnel, Sandy Hayes, and Wendy Taylor have been contributing in countless ways as our paraeducators, and of course, Donna Simpson has held the whole thing together.
Next week we will also have Tammie Johnson (School Counselor), Sarah Metcalf (Music, Band, and Choir) and Madeline Wilson (Speech Language Pathologist) in the building. I know I'm looking forward to it!
So thanks to everyone: students, parents, and staff, for a great first week! Please read below for some changes or reminders, and then keep scrolling down for some pictures!
Thanks,
Principal Bjarki Sears
A Few Notes:
Drop-off and Pick-up.
- Please send a written note with your child if you have any dismissal changes (like if you are picking up by car if your child normally rides the bus). This is much easier to keep track of, as that note usually goes from the child, to the teacher, then to the office. It keeps everyone in the loop.
- Please also send in your "dismissal form" if you haven't done so. If you need a new copy, please email Donna at dsimpson@acsdvt.org.
- One pick-up change! (We are already kind of doing it). Originally we said that all car pick-ups would be in the "upper" parking lot (the one with the basketball hoops). There just isn't enough room there, so going forward:
- K,1: Upper Parking Lot
- If students go home together, they should pick up at the lot of the youngest student.
