Message from Mrs. D and Miss Nancy
The Weather is Changing
As the weather is changing, it is the desire of the school that students get outside as much as possible. Please visit our FAQs on our website (or click here) for more information about outside and inside recesses.
Early in the morning, if the temperatures are 27° F or below (taking into account the windchill factor), the front doors will open at 7:30 AM. Students who have not had breakfast at home will head to the cafeteria. All students in Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2 will go to the art room. Students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 will go to the gym. At 7:40 the hallways will open and teachers will then begin to welcome their students at their classroom.
Parents, please remember as the temperatures and weather changes, the students become cold easily. Gloves, mittens, warm shoes and coats are needed to keep their bodies warm and protected from the cold and elements. Be sure to write your student's name on the inside of each of the items. Should they be found they can be returned to your child. Thank you.
Veterans Day
Nearly 200 people came to join us Friday morning to honor our Veterans. What a great time of fellowship and sharing.
A special note to our families who have family members who have served or are currently serving: thank you for your service to this country. Your bravery, sacrifice and strength do not go unnoticed. We will always be indebted to you and your family for all that you have given to the country.
Picture Retakes This WEDNESDAY
Picture Retakes are this Wednesday, November 16th. If your student was absent, didn’t have their picture take or enrolled after September 28th or if their picture needs to be retaken, their picture will be taken Wednesday morning. If your student has enrolled in our PM Pre-K program after September 28th, their picture will be taken at 12:35 PM so there is no need to rearrange your schedule. To order your pictures, simply click here.

Word of Thanks
To Southlawn's newly formed and growing PTO and families: thank you for the candy donations, organizing the games, the movies and even the popcorn and hot cocoa which kept our energy and spirits elevated and filled us with warmth and appreciation. Your acts of kindness and generosity are beyond what we could have imagined. We are grateful to spend our days with your most cherished ones … your children.
Thanksgiving Dinner at Southlawn - November 17th
Come join us this Thursday as we enjoy our Thanksgiving lunch. The times for each grade level are:
11:15AM - Kinder
10:45AM - 1st Grade
11:45AM - 2nd Grade
12:15PM - 3rd Grade
12:45PM - 4th Grade
1:15PM - 5th Grade
We have quite a collection of tickets for prepaid lunches which will be sent home with your student Tuesday. Be sure to check their backpacks if you haven't already received yours. A ticket has been (or will be sent home Tuesday) with your child(ren) for each prepaid meal. The ticket will give you quick access to the cafeteria just prior to your student's lunch time. If you plan on joining us and haven't had a chance to pay for your lunch, you are welcome to join us. Please allow additional time to check in through the office (through Raptor) prior to the lunchtime. The benefit of the prepaid tickets was two-fold. First, to ensure we ordered enough food for everyone and second, to be processed through Raptor prior to entering the building and direct entry for lunch. Following the planned process makes the lunch line flow quickly and efficiently allowing you more time to laugh and celebrate with your student during this holiday meal.

Student Council Update
Students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 all entered their votes last Friday. An announcement will be made with the names of the new officers. Although we'd like to share this information here, the students will hear the announcement first during Tuesday morning's announcement. Stay tuned!
We Need You!
The new school year is well underway but like many other school districts, businesses and organizations, we’re facing very severe staffing shortages.
We continue to face labor challenged. YOU can help! Many parents and community members support us in the important work of substituting. We can use more teacher and para substitutes. Our teacher and para workforce has grown, but our sub pool has not yet recovered from to match this growth.
As a 27J sub, you can choose your location and your work days (hopefully at Southlawn). You can talk to Nancy (303 655 6205) or contact our HR Executive Director, Michael Clow, Andy Pippin or Julie Trujillo by calling 303 655 2900.
The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) has training and a recruitment stipend to get you started ... CDE LINK. Check us out at Workat27J.com. Please share with your friends and on social media. We appreciate your continued support of Southlawn Elementary.
