A Long Moment to Celebrate Success With Mrs. O'Donnell
Dear Attea Families,
TRIMESTER 2 was a SUCCESS, and we will RISE UP in Trimester 3! On March 16th, Trimester 2 grades will be available on PowerSchool. Today we had an amazing Trimester 2 Spirit Assembly. The following performing groups, clubs, and athletics were recognized!
Attea’s STUDENT VOICE COMMITTEE has officially been launched and taken off! We are committed to making Attea a more equitable place where all students feel a sense of belonging. We bring our ideas and experiences into conversation with school and district leaders to problem-solve collaboratively! Shout out to our school leaders for honoring and uplifting student voices!
Congratulations to HOPE CLUB, run by Rajan, on all of their hard work committing time to various volunteer opportunities. They have worked well, developing their leadership skills and connecting with the community.
Congratulations to DEBATE CLUB members who continue to learn about and hone their skills for effective debating. They are preparing for a formal debate coming in April. Go, debaters!
Congratulations to PODCAST CLUB members. They have worked collaboratively and creatively to highlight student voices at Attea! This year, Podcast club members continued to produce content for the original show, Misadventures of the Middle, and students also formed a new show, A Whole Lot of Middle School. Together, the club published three new episodes this year! Thank you for your hard work and dedication. Way to go!
PiTHONS has continued to compete. They have completed their second round of ICTM and did well! The PiThons and many other students in the building have also recently competed in the Illinois Mathematics League contest. Congratulations to the top scorers.
The LRC wants to give Liza and Alex of the Flight Team a big shout-out on being the 2023 BATTLE OF THE BOOKS Middle School Champions! They competed against seven other teams from both Springman and Attea to become the first-ever BOB Middle School winners!
FUTURE CEOs of Attea have just started. Ayaan has done a great job of getting this new club started. If you are interested, please check this club out Tuesdays after school in Mrs. Ciske’s room.
Great work, IMPROVE LEAGUE bringing energy to every club meeting, and for always being willing to try new games. Huge shoutout to all our members and their efforts in preparing for the Spring show!
Congratulations to Attea’s ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB for their ongoing efforts to make our cafeteria more sustainable! They’ve been working with the district’s Director of Food Services to explore ways to cut down on single-use plastic and incorporate composting into our lunch practices. Thanks for taking our sustainable cafeteria survey last week to let your voices be heard!
Congratulations to CHAMBER ORCHESTRA, FLYER WIND ENSEMBLE, and 7TH/8TH GRADE CHOIR on their Division 1 ratings at IGSMA Organizational Contest! We are looking forward to performing at IGSMA State on April 29th!
Our STICKS, HOOKS, and YARN CLUB members have created stuffed animals, water bottle holders, bracelets, and beanies. Join us Thursdays after school to see what you can create!
Shout out to the CHESS CLUB - those who are learning and improving their skills and have been sharing their knowledge with others - you all rock!
STEAM CLUB has planted its first crop for our hydroponic farm. Join us on Tuesdays after spring break in the Makerspace to code, 3-D print your designs, and use the Cricut to make your t-shirts and stickers. You’ll also be able to help us harvest our hydroponic crop of vegetables!
Shout out to the GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAMS for their hard work and dedication this season!! Everyone improved as individuals and grew as a team throughout the season.
Congratulations to the BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAMS for great seasons developing confidence, teamwork, and skills.
Congratulations to the 8TH GRADE BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM for winning the Central Suburban Middle School Conference Tournament and Regular Season Championship! The boys finished the season with a record of 18-1 and proudly represented Attea on the basketball court! Let’s continue to represent Attea with pride off the court as well!
A BIG SHOUT OUT to ATTEA TECH CREW for spending countless hours building the S.S. American ocean liner!!! It will set sail next week at our Attea Anything Goes musical presentations starting on Friday, March 17, 2023!!!
ANYTHING GOES CAST, STAGE CREW and COSTUME, AND MAKEUP CREW congratulations on creating a beautiful show! The on-stage cast's hard work in singing and acting is showing progress as they head into the last week of rehearsals. The cast even learned to tap dance! The Tech, Stage, and Costume/Makeup Crews have joined in the rehearsals to bring even more dynamics to the performance. Everyone be sure to buy tickets to see the shows Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon. You will want to take advantage of it!
Just under 500 students participated in a co-curricular activity at school during Trimester 2!
WE ARE ATTEA PROUD!
Students will start fresh on Monday, March 13th, as Trimester 3 begins!
NEW TRIMESTER 3 STAR AWARDS NEW
We continue working to find new ways to promote positive school behaviors! Our goal is for ALL students to Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful! To promote, encourage and reward positive actions, students will receive a star ticket when they are "caught in the act" of displaying our school goals. Our amazing SPAT PTA is providing gift cards to raffle off three times during Trimester 3! Students will use their earned tickets to enter the raffles. Please talk with your students about making good choices to help our learning community.
If students exhibit unacceptable or unsafe actions, administrators may request a parent meeting to join the team to determine action steps to support students in changing behaviors. The end of the school year has many special events for students, which are a privilege to attend. We want all of the students to be able to participate in these end-of-the-year activities. We appreciate your support in assisting our students in making positive choices for all.
We are at 11% parent response on the 5Essentials Parent Survey. The rate increased over conferences, as stations were provided to assist in opportunities for feedback. We need a 20% parent response rate to receive results allowing us to focus on strengths and improvement. The Attea community values your support and partnership!
Please take the parent survey today!
Go Flyers!

2022-23 Illinois 5Essentials Survey
Have you taken the 5Essentials Parent Survey yet?
Your input on this statewide survey -- given to parents of all students throughout the state of Illinois -- allows us to help us improve our schools for our students. As a parent, taking the survey will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness. The statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered for the Illinois State Board of Education by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
Prior research in more than 400 schools shows that schools strong on at least 3 of the 5Essentials are 10 times more likely to improve student outcomes.
Please click here to take the parent survey. We ask that you take the survey for each school in which you have a child. We will be pleasantly persistent in the coming weeks as we hope to reach 100% participation before the survey closes on March 31, 2023. We plan to use the results of this year's survey to give us a clear picture of our schools' climate and culture. If at least 20% of parents participate in the survey, a parent supplement report will be generated and we will share these results with the community.
