Centennial Middle School
March 2, 2023
Letter from Principal Rosenbach
Dear Centennial Families,
Welcome to March and only 18 days left until Spring, I can’t believe we are this far into the school year. And what an exciting time with the ever-changing weather and now our elective registration for classes next fall. Current 8th grade families should see below information from SHS Principal, Nate DuChesne, regarding 9th grade registration. For families with current 6th graders, we will be hosting our Spring Preview tonight, March 2 at 6pm in the gym here at Centennial.
Current 7th graders will be registering for classes as follows:
March 16th – 7th grade students will watch a video of our counselors explaining the registration process during Patriot Period.
Week of March 20-23 – counselors will visit each 7th grade Patriot Period to answer individual student questions regarding elective options and registration process.
March 23rd – online registration is closed at the end of the day. All elective options need to be submitted by the 23rd.
This is an exciting time for all students as they will be thinking about their future. We encourage all families to discuss the elective options and work with their students on making an informed decision. Once choices are made and classes are set, it is difficult to make adjustments. If you have any questions, please make sure to reach out to our counselors.
Sincerely,
Josh Rosenbach

Marine Corps JROTC at Snohomish High School
Future Panther Parents,
As high school registration is soon approaching, I’d like you to consider an option for your child. Snohomish High School has a class called Marine Corps JROTC. This class is a leadership and character education class. It is delivered in a military structure but there is no obligation to serve in the military upon graduation. Only a small percentage of students (15-20%) choose this route. 1st year students are not required to wear a uniform.
Both instructors are retired Marines, they are hired by Snohomish School District as certificated teachers.
The skills and relationships built in the class will benefit a student no matter where their future takes them.
Over the past 2 to 3 years, more and more children have become less connected with their peers and less connected with school. Students in JROTC report the opposite. Here are comments from recent students on why they like JROTC:
- The way it teaches you to be a better/stronger, and well-rounded individual, the sense of "family"/belonging, and the fundamentals of
responsibility.
Gives opportunity for growth and development of leadership skills
Mentors to assist in character growth are widely available
Teaches and instills a sense of discipline
Gives people an opportunity to follow and lead by example (representing yourself as a person, the program and country as whole), everyone is welcomed in the JROTC program, and everyone is treated equally like family.
The family like community makes it easier to succeed. The structure helps to keep us in check. The student leadership helps to make other students want to lead as well.
I like the way students take control of the class so it's more interactive and more engaging.
All the things we learn in JROTC can be used in life so everything we learn in class is valuable.
How the program is organized and how it changed me into a different or improved version of myself
Our students look forward to coming to school because of the culture we create and the relationships they form with the instructors and each other. Many of our students will take JROTC for multiple years due to this. This helps them grow and to graduate. JROTC counts as Physical Education, Occupational, and elective credits, all graduation requirements. Additionally, the Snohomish MCJROTC programs has been recognized as one of the top programs in the country over the last several years.
Students interested in JROTC register for it just like any other class at the high school.
We will be hosting a one-day camp on 11 March 2023 at Snohomish High School. It is a great opportunity to see if it is a good fit for your child. You can find the registration form for the camp on our website below.
