Message from the Principal
Hello Templeton Tigers!
We hope you’re all feeling as good about the school year as we are! There are two big things on my mind, which I need to share with our entire community.
First, our staff is loving this year and we hope you are too! There are so many positive things happening in our classrooms every day! We’ve also had an incredibly high rate of participation in our three community events so far this year! Back to School Night, Hispanic Heritage Night, and the Fall Festival. Not only did we have strong participation and support from our community overall, we also had so many volunteers help make these events such an overwhelming success! A big thank you to the folks below, specifically for their help with Hispanic Heritage Night and Fall Festival!
The second is attendance. Unfortunately, there are still some lingering effects from the pandemic and many students are staying home as a precaution. This is completely understandable. With that said, we want your child at school as often as possible. Attending school has a significant positive impact on your child’s current well-being and their future! In our last newsletter, I focused almost entirely on attendance. If your child has not come to school at least 90% of the time, please give this a second look. You can find it here. If there’s anything we can do to help, please reach out to us!
Templeton is a wonderful place to be! I can’t thank the families here enough! A big thanks to the following families for volunteering their time or providing donations to support our events! Templeton is an amazing school! That has so much to do with it’s strong community of support!

Attendance Matters!
Help your child succeed in school: Build the habit of good attendance early! Here are some tips/Aquí hay unas sugerencias for helping your student(s) build the habits of attending school regularly and on time. We will be sharing our school-wide and grade level attendance rates every month.
In October, 68% of our students attended school regularly. Our goal for November is to have 75% of Templeton students attending regularly (i.e., attending 90% or more of the days in November).
Community Resources & Holiday Help Application
Community Resources Information Request & Holiday Help Application
Our community is fortunate to have a variety of organizations and resources for families.
Here is a way to request information about community resources and/or apply for assistance during the holiday season. "Holiday Help" may look like toy, clothing or food donations put together by volunteers. Volunteers try their best to match items to children based on age and gender, but cannot accommodate specific requests for items. We appreciate your understanding!
While the majority of our sponsors donate specifically for the winter holidays, Templeton strives to provide year-round support for families regardless of which holidays they celebrate.
Please note which holiday you are seeking assistance so we can more accurately match sponsors with your needs.
Please fill out this form or reach out directly to Caitlin Brown, cbrown2@ttsd.k12.or.us or 503-431-4888.

3rd grade music program!
Templeton’s Art Literacy Program
Highlight on our current artist:
Jackson Pollock 1912-1956
An American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. He was widely known for his “drip technique” of pouring paint onto a horizontal surface, enabling him to view and paint his canvases from all angles. It was also called “action painting,” since he used the force of his whole body to paint, often in a frenetic dancing style. He often played music while creating his art.
Our current project: tempera painting on canvas (using straws/chopsticks) inspired by Jackson Pollock.
Our first project is complete: mixed media mosaics with leaf creatures that tied in with the Fall Festival theme: “If You Find a Leaf.” All 22 classes were able to participate! An extra special thank you to Paige and Emily for taking on extra classes! Thank you, Elizabeth, for volunteering to run our Art Literacy blog!
Volunteer opportunity for Art Lit in your child's classroom:
Parent volunteers are needed in EACH classroom for students to learn about artists and create art! Would you like to be a part of your child's learning experiences? You can help bring Art Literacy into your child's classroom with as little as 2 hours of volunteering per Art project.
We have 4 art projects left this school year. You do not need teaching experience or an art background! Art Literacy Coordinators will provide all training and materials needed for each project.
And, as a volunteer you are eligible to attend art workshops at the district office taught by professionals!
We still need volunteers for:
⭐️Bates (Kindergarten)
⭐️Satterlee/Hobbs (Kindergarten)
⭐️West (Kindergarten)
⭐️Downs (5th grade)
⭐️Radja (3rd grade)-needs a 2nd volunteer
Most other classes would love to have another volunteer or two as well!
Please consider helping us reach every classroom with art by volunteering.
THANK YOU to all of our amazing Art Literacy Volunteers for bringing Art to Templeton Students!

BUS SAFETY
If you have a bus rider at home, please take time to talk about what it means to be a PAX leader on the way to and from school (Templeton Bus Expectations are linked here!). The bus is a very important part of the school day and we want to ensure that all of our Templeton Tigers are safe, kind, and responsible.
