PANTHER PRIDE FLYER
February 3, 2023
Panther Proud
Our Boosterthon Fundraiser is coming to a close soon. We have had a lot of fun and learned about important principles including gratitude, stewardship, bravery, perseverance, and wonder.
As we anticipate continued challenges with the weather through Friday, we are making the following changes to our Boosterthon event.
The Fun Run will now become an indoor Dance Fit instead. We will relocate the event to the cafeteria due to cold temperatures and a muddy, sloshy field.
We will follow the schedule below for our Dance Fit fundraising event:
- 3rd - 8:25 - 9:10
- 5th - 9:20 - 10:05
- 4th - 10:05 - 10:50
- 2nd - 10:50 - 11:35
- PK/K - 12:50 - 1:35
- 1st - 1:40 - 2:25
We will not be able to accommodate lunch visitors on Friday due to the Dance Fit event being held in the cafeteria. We appreciate your understanding of this change.
When we return from break, we will host our Friendship Parties on Tuesday, February 14. As a reminder, the parties are organized by grade level liaisons to ensure that parties look the same from classroom to classroom in a grade level and accommodate allergies and other needs. Please do not send goodie bags or any extra treats to school. Check with your child's teacher regarding exchanging Valentine cards.
Thank you for your continued support of PFE through our Boosterthon event and 4th-grade fundraiser Hear-a-Grams! Please don't hesitate to email me at sloan.simmons@humbleisd.net or call me at 281-641-2100 if you need anything. Have a wonderful February break! We will see you on Monday, February 13!
Sincerely,
Sloan Simmons, Principal
P.S. In case you haven't heard, the students voted that Mrs. Simmons will have a live tarantula on her head as the challenge if we meet our goal of $20,000! Yikes!

Reminders
We have a few reminders to share with you related to procedures on campus.
- For safety reasons, all visitors and volunteers must present a valid ID in order to be admitted inside the building.
- You are more than welcome to have lunch with your child at school. We have seating on the stage for you and your student. This is a special time for you and your child. Other students are not permitted to join you and your student during this time. There are some days when the campus will be closed for lunch visitors throughout the year (beginning of the year to learn routines, state assessment days, etc.). Please make sure that you read the weekly newsletter so you are aware of potential “closed campus” days.
- Please hang your yellow car plaque from your rearview mirror when you go through the car rider pickup lines. A pant or garment hanger with clips works great for this. If you haven’t already done so, please outline your number in bold, black marker. Doing these two things will help to expedite us entering numbers in the system resulting in a faster dismissal.
- We will be hosting Friendship Parties on Feb. 14, 2023. Our grade-level liaison and room parents work with teachers to organize the parties so they look and feel the same from classroom to classroom. We kindly ask that you please do not send any treat bags or extra goodies to your child’s classroom for parties.
- Cell phones, smartwatches, and other personal electronic devices are to be turned off and stored in the student’s backpacks during school hours. We are seeing a rise in texting and disruption to the educational environment due to personal electronic devices.
General information
- Supervision begins at 7:30, please do not leave students unattended outside in the morning.
- The first bell rings at 7:55, Tardy bell rings at 8:00. Please walk in all students who arrive after 8 am.
- Early check-out must be done before 2:45. We can not check your student out by phone.
- Dismissal begins at 3:15 and ends at 3:45. Any students still here after 3:45 will need to be signed out in the front foyer.
- Please hang your yellow car plaque from your rearview mirror and keep it there until your Panther has been loaded into your car. This will help us expedite the loading process.
- RAINY DAY DISMISSAL: Should we call rainy day dismissal, parents will receive a text or an email alerting that we are doing so. This is generally called around 3 PM. Walker parents should then use their car tag and get in one of our 2 dismissal drive-through lines to pick up any walkers.
- ALL visitors must present their driver's license when signing into the building or checking students out.

Nurse Notes - SHOULD THEY STAY OR SHOULD THEY GO?
As always, it is important to keep your child home when he/she does not feel well.
Daily health checks must be done prior to sending your child to school.
If your student exhibits any of the following conditions, it is recommended they stay home:
● Fever of 100℉ or greater within the last 24 hours. Must be fever free without medication for 24 hours.
● Vomiting
● Diarrhea in the past 24 hours
● Persistent, hacking cough
● Continually runny nose with white, green, or yellow mucus
● Eyes that appear swollen, red, and weeping
● Strep throat - may return 24 hours after the antibiotic is started and fever has subsided
● Rash of unknown cause anywhere on the body
● Scabies – exclude until treatment has begun
(For more information on clinic guidelines please see the PFE Clinic website below.)
A good rule to follow: “When in doubt, keep them out.”
Healthy Habits to keep your student functioning at their highest:
1. Eat a healthy well rounded breakfast every day.
2. Stick to a sleep schedule: APA recommends school-age children get 9-12 hours
per day.
3. Limit screen time (video games, TV, phones & computers).
4. Get outside and move every day.
5. Remember the healthy Food Plate: Protein; Veggie; Fruit; Grains & Dairy - keep
sweets to a minimum.
6. Screen daily for colds and flu.
Stay healthy,

Yellow Car Plaques
We need your help with dismissal. If your child is a car rider, please help us with the following:
- display the yellow car rider tag from your rearview mirror (a pant hanger with clips works great for this) and keep it hanging there until your child has been loaded in your car
- please let Miss Marci know if you need a new yellow car rider tag
This helps to ensure safety, efficiency, and timeliness. Thank you in advance for your help with this.
PE Reminders
Please make sure your child has on tennis shoes for their 2 PE days during the week. We are seeing a lot of Crocs and sandals, and want to make sure your child stays safe while being active. Also, please work with your child on learning to tie their shoes! We appreciate your help. Thank you!

Thanks for helping keep your students hydrated.
Arrival Reminders
- Front Drive Drop Off: All students are to exit from the passenger side of the vehicle. If you are in the far lane please wait for our staff to unload your child and cross them safely to the sidewalk. Please DO NOT let your student unload from the driver's side of the car. This is a safety issue. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us keep our students and staff safe.
- Cafeteria Side Drop Off: All students are to exit from the passenger side of the vehicle in the lane closest to the building. The left lane is a passing lane. Please do not drop students off in the parking lot. All students should be dropped off in the cafeteria side drop-off lane or walked in by an adult. Safety is our priority!
Dismissal Procedures for 2022-2023
Safety continues to be the number one priority at PFE. We are making changes to our dismissal system to better secure our students. Please click on the Dismissal Procedures document for more detailed information. All students will receive a car rider hanging tag. If you need a car rider tag, please contact Miss Marci at 281-641-2100.
Key Changes to Dismissal Procedures:
- ALL students will receive a car rider dismissal hanging tag (bikers/walkers, car riders, daycare, and bus riders).
- Students will remain with their classroom teachers until dismissed.
- We will operate a two-lane car rider system in the front driveway.
- The side driveway will be used for buses, daycares, PreK, and smaller populations. Once these groups have been cleared, we will send out a text stating "the side car rider line is now open." Please join us!
- Walkers/bikers will remain with their classroom teacher if rainy day dismissal is called. Parents will join the front car rider line or the side car rider line (following the text) and display the car rider dismissal tag with the assigned number.
- Walkers/bikers are dismissed in three different areas. The preferred area is the grassy area on the northeast side of campus. Students are also escorted across West Lake Houston Parkway and to the 4-way stop at Pine Cup and Atascocita Pines Drive. Students in kindergarten and 1st grade will be released to a parent or older sibling. If no one is there to receive the K or 1st grade student, the student will be brought back to the campus.
- Parking will not be permitted along the side driveway near the grassy area. Parents may not park and walk up to retrieve students as a walker. Students leaving in a car would be considered car riders and need to be in the car rider line.
- If a parent does not have their designated car rider tag, he/she will be directed to park and go into the front office to get one. Parents will be asked to show their ID and a new car rider tag will be printed. Parents will have the choice to get back in the car rider line or wait until dismissal is over for their child to be called to the front office.
Our location has us landlocked on a very busy street and congestion is a concern. Please know that once we have the routines in place, dismissal will run efficiently and effectively. We appreciate your patience as we establish these routines and our families learn our process. It takes approximately three weeks for afternoon dismissal to smooth out as we learn the procedures. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience.
