Counselor Corner
With Thanksgiving a little less than a week away, I want to take a moment to express my thankfulness and gratitude to our school community. I consider myself very fortunate to be the School Counselor at Stanley. I am reminded each and every day through your students the beauty and wonder of being young. I love that I get to be a part of their learning and growth as they navigate elementary school and all the experiences that come with it. They often are the ones teaching me so much!
The next few weeks here at school, kindergarten through second grade is learning all about empathy and the importance of developing skills to understand how others are feeling. Third through fifth grade students have started Project Happiness. We will continue to develop tools to foster resilience. Third grade has learned the difference between short and long term happiness, while fourth grade practiced the power of their perspective and choice. Lastly, fifth grade reviewed empathy and how it differs from sympathy. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks as we wrap up these awesome and powerful concepts.
Enjoy your families as we get a few extra days off next week!
Take care,
Mrs. Nab
Notes from the Nurse:
Water bottles:
Please remind your student to bring a water bottle to school each day. Our water fountains are closed at this time. We are also looking for bottled water donations.
Health Files:
Immunizations, Physical Assessments, and Birth Certificates are past due. These forms are needed to attend school and can be emailed, faxed, or brought into the office.
Masks:
Please send your student each day with a mask. Having a backup mask in their backpack if it becomes wet or soiled would also be very helpful.
Change of clothes:
Please have your child keep weather appropriate change of clothes in their backpack. If a spill, mess, or bathroom accident occurs during the school day your child can then quickly change into their own clothes and return to class.
When to stay home:
Blue Valley utilizes the Johnson County Health Department exclusion criteria regarding COVID symptoms. If your child has one primary symptom or two secondary symptoms they will need a negative test or a doctor’s note to return to school.

This option is available through a Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) grant provided directly to MAWD Labs.

BV Substitutes
“How can I help?” It’s one of the most common questions we hear from our Blue Valley community these days and it is what makes our community so special: your willingness to lend a helping hand and provide support during difficult times. Our students need us now more than ever, and in order to support them in the best way possible, we need our community. We are currently looking for substitutes. If you have completed 60 college credits, you are eligible to apply for an emergency substitute license. If you are available one day a week, or even a couple days a month, consider applying to become a substitute. For more information, please contact Kaitlyn Drew at KMDrew@bluevalleyk12.org.

Bus Tracker & Textcaster Information for Families
Durham Bus Services has three helpful tools for families with bus riders. Registration is required each year for families as bus routes and participants change:
Bus Tracker: The Blue Valley Durham location will be using the Bus Tracker mobile app that is available for iOS and Android devices. To use the app, users will create an account that is tied to an email address of the user’s choice. The tool will allow account users to follow the route of a specific bus. Durham is updating daily when a scheduled backup bus is being used for a planned maintenance activity. If a bus is replaced with a quick turnaround due to an unforeseen event, Durham dispatch will make the switch on Bus Tracker at their next opportunity to update the app.
Text Messaging: Families are still encouraged to sign up for Durham Text Messaging. The system is designed to share the “why” as Bus Tracker is designed to tell the “where”. To sign up for Durham Text Messaging visit www.bluevalleydurham.com.
E-Link: Allows for verification of a student’s transportation information (i.e., stop location, bus # and pick-up and drop off times) based on the input of grade and home address. To access E-Link, go to www.bluevalleydurham.com.
Nut Safer Information
Blue Valley School’s Nut Safer Guidelines will be implemented throughout the school year for daily snacks.
· Classroom snacks must be from the Nut Safer list.
· Nut Safer seating is available in the café during lunch
The complete list of Nut Safer foods and BV Guidelines can be found here: Nut Safer Guidelines
