Message from the Principal
Dear Viking community,
Fall has finally arrived in the Northwest! With it comes the transition from the annual excitement of a return to school and a normal daily routine. The kids at VVMS are settling into their classes and their own routines of activities, sports, and studying. Routines are comforting to students, especially after the absence of a normal school routine the past couple of years.
In that vein, we have noticed the kids turning the corner academically and behaviorally this fall. Last year at VVMS there were over 400 disciplinary referrals. This year, with our focus on Social Emotional Learning and the character traits reinforced through Character Strong curriculum, we have had 46 referrals so far this year. We are pleased to see our initial efforts paying off. We have built strong relationships with students, we are seeing fewer off-task behaviors, and more academic focus in the classrooms. We are very proud of our students and staff, and we appreciate your partnership in helping our students develop their potential.
There are some important activities we look forward to in November. Our Veterans Day assembly is scheduled for November 10. We are looking forward to honoring our Veterans for their service. On Veterans Day, Nov. 11 there will be no school. Thanksgiving break begins with a half-day 10:30am release on November 23 with no school on the 24 and 25. We hope you enjoy some quality family time during the break.
Enjoy this fall weather, and feel free to reach out if we can help with your child’s education in any way.
In partnership,
Eric Cahan
VVMS Principal
Students to receive scan cards to ride the bus
To accompany our district's conversion to the Traversa Ride 360 program, all district students will be receiving a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) scan card, which will act as their ID when riding the bus during the 2022-2023 school year. These scan ridership cards will be distributed to every student throughout the school year. Distribution of the scan ridership cards at Valley View will happen during the week of November 7.
At each bus stop, the driver will be able see a display of the names and photos of students assigned to that stop so they can confirm that the correct students are boarding or getting off the bus. Please note that these scan cards are not trackers. No student information is stored on these cards, and they are not used to track a student’s location. The school buses are used to locate students while on the route. The student RFID cards simply help to accelerate the process of recording student check-ins while also mitigating errors. Knowing where and when a student is during a bus route is paramount to ensuring the safety of every child in real-time. Click here to download a handout for parents/guardians with more information about scan ridership cards.
What Is Traversa Ride 360?
Traversa Ride 360 provides secure access to student routing information. Traversa Ride 360 provides quick access to your child's routing information, which can include the bus stop, route, and bus number. This is accessible on mobile devices, and confidential and secure. This program can be accessed via the web or mobile app and is free to download and use. The user guide can be downloaded by clicking one of the links below:
- How to access the Traversa Ride 360 website - English

Valley View Direct Give Fundraiser
Hello Valley View Parents!
The Parent Club is pleased to announce we are in full swing for the 2022-23 school year and need your help! The past few years have yielded very little in fundraising due to Covid limitations. Donations will assist us in funding things like student planners, teacher meals and snacks during conferences, holiday treats and meals for staff, support for a family meal for valley view families in need over the holidays, teacher/staff appreciation week, scholarships for GP students having attended Valley View, the 8th grade dance and more. In order to support our teachers and students, would you please consider a donation to our cause?
A generous donation of $25 per student would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for the consideration and support!
