Our Furry Friends
Lockdown Drill on May 18th
On Wednesday, May 18 at 10:15 AM, we will be conducting a safety drill at Templeton. This will be to practice our Lock Down procedure. Tualatin Police Department and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue will be invited to participate and offer feedback.
We use the following Standard Response Protocol:
The school is notified of a lockdown over the internal speaker system. Students gather in a corner of their classroom where they sit together silently. Staff are responsible for locking the classroom door, turning off the light, taking roll to account for students, and joining students in sitting together as quietly as possible. Staff and students remain sitting quietly until First Responders open the door.
Students will be aware of the scheduled drill and will have an opportunity to ask questions during Morning Meetings. We will conduct all procedures swiftly and calmly.
We welcome your thoughts, questions and/or concerns by phone, email or in person. Please don’t hesitate to reach out. More information will be shared in an upcoming email.
Message from the Principal
What You Plant Today, You Will Harvest Tomorrow
With spring finally here, it’s a great time to encourage kids to get away from their screens and get outdoors. Why not invest some time in a family garden? Make your plans and plant your seeds now, and you will have your pick of flowers and food come summer. You’ll also cultivate some essential life skills. When kids tend to plants, they learn to care for the little things and one another. Keep in mind that gardens can be started in containers just as easily as in a bed in the yard. The most important thing is to find a place that will receive the greatest amount of light during the day.
Here are a few other tips to help start your family garden:
Prep the soil by turning the soil over and breaking up any dirt clods. Supplement the soil with compost (this can come from your very own food waste).
Plant your seeds or seedlings, making sure to cover the seeds or roots without going too deep. Herbs, squash, tomatoes, marigolds, sunflowers, and sweet peas are easy to grow and will provide instant gratification.
Water immediately and keep the soil consistently moist.while plants are small. After a few weeks, taper off the watering to two or three times a week.
Harvest frequently in order to encourage the plants to keep producing.
So get your family garden on and reap the benefits of fresh food and flowers as well as quality time spent together in Oregon’s beautiful outdoors!

Templeton Elementary’s Art Literacy Program
Highlight on our current artist:
Claude Monet 1840-1926
Monet was a French painter and one of the founders of Impressionist art. Monet is famous for his unique style of painting with short obvious brush strokes and liberal use of color. He was inspired by nature and the way that natural light affected his subjects. He was more concerned about conveying a feeling than trying to perfectly copy a scene.
Our current project: an Impressionism style watercolor painting inspired by Monet, with a Portland Bridge overlay.
Our last project is complete: black & white photographs taken by students, inspired by Ansel Adams. Each student who participated will receive a 5x7 print of their photograph thanks to a grant from the Beta Beta Foundation!
THANK YOU to all of our amazing Art Literacy Volunteers for bringing Art to Templeton students!

One School, One Book
Our school is about to take part in a special, communitywide shared reading event. Every family will receive a copy of the same book and will be asked to read it together at home over the next few weeks. Books will be distributed (one per family) on Friday, May 13th.
Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader, and it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. With this program, we aim to build a Community of Readers at Templeton. Everyone–students, parents, teachers, even administrative staff–will all be following along together.
Weekly COVID Screening
If you would like to be removed please make sure to email the front office: templetonoffice@ttsd.k12.or.us with your students full name.
