SCS Weekly Newsletter: 9/23/22
and Autumn Begins...
From the Principal's Desk: A "Thank You" to Families.
Good Evening,
After another good week at Salisbury Community School, I am left with a feeling of great appreciation for our SCS families. Every week has its own story, and this one has taught me a lot about the wonderful families we have connected to Salisbury School, and I want to take the opportunities to thank you all for a few reasons.
First, a tremendous THANK YOU for rolling with the bus problem this week. For those of you who missed it, we found out late last Sunday that there was not going to a bus for the West Side of Salisbury because of a driver staffing shortage for the entire week. I know it created a difficult situation for some families, and I am genuinely sorry that you had to adjust. I'm sure it was not always easy, but you seemed to understand and were very gracious. Thank you. The bus will be running again on Monday!
Second, thank you to the members of FOSCS, who are family members of our students actively engaged with supporting various events at Salisbury Community School. There is information about our "Clear the Trails" evening coming up on October 10th later in this newsletter, and stay tuned for future newsletters, where I will outline some fall activities FOSCS is putting on. Interested in joining? The more the merrier! Look for the FOSCS informational table at next week's Open House.
And third- thank you to families who have engaged with the school to make it a more harmonious place. We have parents bringing by donations and community treats, we have adults helping each other out with rides for the kids, and we also have parents working with great care to support the school's culture and expectations around how we treat each other. In the past few weeks I have, upon occasion, had to call home about a behavior, or a student concern. I have been struck by how powerful change can be when the school and families are on board together and communicating about common goals- it's really inspiring, and I've seen it be very effective. Working together to build a happy and safe environment shows our children that we truly care. Thank you, families, for coming on this journey with us.
And thank you to everyone for another great week!
All the best,
Principal Bjarki Sears

And speaking of bobcats...
FOSCS "Clear the Trails!" Monday, October 10th from 5:00-7:00 PM.
Look below for a link to a sign-up document. Certainly don't feel like you have to sign up in order to come, but we thought it might help people see where some tools might be needed. The more people the merrier- we can get the work in before dark!
A request from Donna and our staff around pick-up.
- If your child is going to be absent or tardy, please call Donna at 898- 4291 to let us know.
- If you are having your child leave school in an unusual way after school, please let us know. Using a written note delivered by your child to their teacher is very helpful, because then it moves through everyone's hands who needs to know. Calling and emailing works too.
- IMPORTANT: If your child gets picked up in the "upper parking lot" where the Kindergarteners and 1st graders get picked up, please make sure that you touch base with the SCS staff who are waiting out there with them. It's important we connect on those hand-offs. Sometimes young students get very excited and want to run to you- we really want them to be used to waiting safely for pick-up.
And a few more fun photos from the week:

and using their own in a variety of settings.
