October, November, & December Specials Schedules
As we return to fully in person our hope is to make the specials schedule a little less confusing for families and teachers. Our new schedule will begin on October 5th with Green Day to join up with the Virtual students in order to help make specials calendars more consistent. With this change all In-person and Virtual classes will follow that same specials calendar for the rest of the semester (barring any unforeseen closures or changes to attendance). As far as days off, we will consider them to be days with no specials and the calendar will adjust accordingly (i.e. We end on a Red day the week of conferences, so we will pick up with Orange when we return). This will again go for both in-person and virtual students in order to have more consistent access to each specials teacher.
Virtual Book Fair
Our Virtual Book Fair through Follett Books will be November 2nd-13th. Follett Books is our main source of books for the library, so profits from this fair will go directly to purchasing new books for our library. Families will be provided our school link to shop from the comfort of their own home. After the fair closes, all orders will be presorted by teacher (families will choose their child’s teacher when placing the order, so that they can be easily distributed) and shipped to the school about a week after the fair closes.
Below is a short video about our upcoming efair
If you would like to take a look at titles that will be available or just check out what the fair site looks like, you can use the link below (this link will go live on November 2nd when the fair opens)

Support Staff Recruitment
Apply to join our BV support team and make a difference in your community
The Blue Valley School District is actively seeking applications for new members of our support team. Across the country, school districts are experiencing difficulties staffing several of the most critical school support roles. If 2020 has shown us anything, it is that together, anything is possible. With that in mind, we are asking you to join us in the driver’s seat, in the classroom, in the lunchroom and in our schools to help us provide the best in-person learning experience for our students. Blue Valley is seeking applications for the following support roles within our district:
- Bus drivers (Training provided)
- Substitute teachers (60 hours college credit required to apply)
- Paraeducators
- Custodians
- Food Service workers
If you are looking to make a positive impact in your community and in the lives of our children, we encourage you to apply for one of these support opportunities in the district, or share this information with someone you think would be a good fit to join our team. For more information and to apply for school-level openings, visit the Blue Valley employment website. Apply for bus driver positions online.
Reporting Student Absences
It is important to report all student absences. These absences can be for one full day or for future absences due to medical appointments, illness, family obligations, etc. There are two main ways to report an absence:
Preferred Option: Use your BV ParentVue account to report full-day student absences. Log in on BV ParentVue and complete three basic steps.
Select the child who will be absent.
Select the drop-down option that describes the absence.
Please utilize the “notes” section to share extra information for the staff, if needed.
Phone options will continue to be available at all schools for reporting any attendance information as well. To report an absence at Stanley Elementary School via phone, please call 913-239-7205. Note: If your elementary student participates in the VirtualED program with a teacher housed at another school site, please email the teacher directly AND contact the school attendance line at that school instead. A list of the Blue Valley Schools and attendance phone numbers can be found on our district website using these steps:
Click Our Schools and select the school
Click the About Us tab
Select Contact Us

Attendance Notifications (In-Person Learning)
With the return of full in-person elementary students and the return of middle and high school students in a hybrid model beginning on Monday, October 5, Blue Valley schools will be notifying families of any unexpected absences through email, phone, text, and optional push notifications. Families can expect automated attendance messages by email, phone, and text if a child is absent and his/her absence has not already been reported by a parent/guardian. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to call the school to report an absence or reply to the automated email or phone message.
Middle school and high school students on at-home learning days (within the hybrid model) will continue to be expected to check-in for each class via Zoom or another manner indicated by their teacher. During this check-in time, attendance will continue to be taken.
What is the purpose of attendance notifications?
We realize that students may occasionally need to miss school for planned absences, illnesses, and appointments. However, when a student does not arrive at school or unexpectedly misses a portion of the school day, we are concerned and want to make sure you are aware that your child is absent.
How can I get push notifications?
Families who would also like a push notification can download the ParentVUE app and manage their notifications. If a child has an unreported absence when a teacher submits attendance, then a push notification will immediately be sent to the parent/guardian's mobile device.
Interested in push notifications? Simply download the ParentVUE app (iTunes app store or Google Play), enable push notifications in device settings and select attendance notifications through in-app settings.
Counselors Corner
Phew what a week! Peace Week has been refreshing and inspirational. I have loved being in the car-line at morning drop off where I saw students hop out of their cars in their Peace Week spirit wear! You all are incredibly creative! I also look forward to driving through the neighborhood and seeing the Stanley Paws that students have designed on your windows or doors!
Third, fourth and fifth grade classrooms took our Panorama Student Survey this week. I am really looking forward to diving into the data from the survey and learning more about what our students need and how they can be supported best by the district and here at school. Thank you for sharing your students with me. They are THE BEST part of my time here at Stanley. Have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Nab
