Letter from Principal Rosenbach
Hello Centennial Families,
Happy New Year and welcome back to school in 2023. I sincerely hope that you and your family were able to rest, recuperate, and rejuvenate over the holidays and spend quality time with friends and family. As we begin the new school year this is a great time to remind our students of the positive behavior expectations, we have for all. Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful. We held grade level assemblies this week where administrators reemphasized the expectations for students' behavior while at school. We want Centennial to be a safe and enjoyable place for everyone. We look forward to starting off the new year on a positive note!
Next week we are excited to host James Lyman, from the Association of Washington Student Leaders, as our guest speaker during our annual Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration. We have utilized Mr. Lyman’s videos and activities the past two years during our MLK recognition, and we are excited to have him join us in person now that we are having assemblies again. Mr. Lyman is engaging and brings a great message with him that aligns with our values here at CMS. We are looking forward to having the students benefit from this time together.
The end of the first semester is coming quickly and the last day of semester one is on January 27. Students are encouraged to finish their first semester classes on a strong and positive note by working hard, completing all assignments, and turning in all projects. Please check with your student's teacher if you have a specific question about the last day to turn work in for credit in a specific class.
Happy New Year
Josh Rosenbach
Principal
MLK day assembly
Also, there will be an assembly on Thursday, January 12th at 1pm in honor of Martin Luther King. If you are needing to pick your student up this day, please be aware that it may take extra time if calling them out of the assembly and plan accordingly.
Winter Sports Sign Up Monday, January 9
Monday, January 9, we will be having sign-ups for our winter sports. This season we will offer girls basketball and co-ed wrestling. Girls basketball will be a cut sport. If your student is interested in participating in either sport, please come to the front office and sign up with Mrs. Smith.
Both sports will begin Tuesday, January 31st.

For being accepted into the honor band!
This is for the Mount Pilchuck Music Educators Association (MPMEA) Honor Band. Students that show outstanding talent and dedication were nominated by their Band Director, and working around instrumentation, these three students were accepted into the band. This band will feature 93 8th Grade students from 21 different Middle Schools! The MPMEA Honor Band affords the student an invaluable opportunity to play with other outstanding student musicians in the region under the direction of a distinguished band director. Our 2023 MPMEA Honor Band Festival Conductor is Paul Bain. Mr. Bain is the interim Director of Bands at Western Washington University and has previously taught for 18 years in public schools. The concert will be held on Thursday, January 19th, at 7 pm at the Everett Civic Auditorium.
Thank you, to our new band instructor, Lane Wilkinson, for nominating these students!
Thank You for Your Donations
NO SCHOOL DAYS
Monday, January 16 MLK Day
Monday, January 30 Non-student Day
Remember to power up before school
Why does attendance even matter?
- Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause students to fall behind in school.
- Missing 10% can make it harder to learn to read.
- Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two every few weeks.
- Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
- Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help catch students up.
