A Note from the Director
"The harder I work, the luckier I get." - Samuel Goldwyn
Wouldn't it be great to answer the door and find someone from Publisher's Clearinghouse ready to hand you a giant check with a lot of zeroes on it? Or find that your $2 Powerball ticket just matched all the numbers? What a stroke of luck! Good things do sometimes just happen. But sometimes we call it luck when those good things are really due to hard work. It can be easy for us to say that those outstanding athletes, amazing scientists and successful entrepreneurs and are just lucky, when in reality their achievements are due to their unrelenting efforts. As educators at Liberty, we believe that academic success is more than the luck of the draw. We know that all kids are capable of learning. And, we believe in a growth mindset, which means that by working harder, our brains develop more neural pathways - our brains literally grow! Struggling over a difficult task makes us smarter. At school, we reinforce this by encouraging students to exchange, "I can't do it" for "I'll try." As parents, you can help your children develop a growth mindset by encouraging them to view challenges as exciting, to look at mistakes as steps toward goals, and to see themselves as capable, resilient human beings.
I may not be lottery-lucky, but I know that I'm blessed to work at a job that keeps me learning all the time. I'm grateful for my colleagues and our students who demonstrate daily that with hard work, we are capable of so much. We have the best kids at Liberty and they are destined for great things. After all, people who have a growth mindset can do anything!
Lucky to be your director,
Mrs. Susan Bryant
