Week of Jan. 23-27, 2023
Today is UN Holocaust Memorial Day.
This is an International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust coinciding with the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp in 1945.
Nature's Classroom Fundraiser!
After a successful 8th Grade Nature’s Classroom Trip, we are gearing up for next year’s 8th grade trip to Nature’s Classroom!
Our first step is to start fundraising. From January 23rd- February 10th, we are doing the Flower Power Fundraiser. This year students will have the opportunity to participate using a traditional fundraising catalog and also an online store. Flower Power sells “the best quality Spring Planting Bulbs, Seeds and Berries.” Purchasers can help Individual students earn money off of their tuition from this fundraiser OR they can contribute to the Nature’s Classroom Scholarship Fund.
To give credit to a specific 7th grade student, write their name in the box labeled “Give Credit For This Sale To” at checkout. If you want to donate to the scholarship fund, write scholarship fund in the same box. Students earn 50% of the cost of each item sold!
The fundraiser will run from January 23rd- February 10th. Go to http://fowlernaturesclassroom.fpfundraising.com to check out what they have to offer! Share the link with friends and family near and far as the products are delivered directly to the customers.
Fowler had a door decorating contest this week, and Specialist teachers judged the doors today!

Attendance Letters going home this week:
Fowler is beginning to communicate more frequently with parents whose children are considered to be chronically absent. The state DESE considers a student to be chronically absent if they miss 10% of school for whatever reason. The state does not care if the absence was excused due to medical issues. All absences are counted against a student. Letters are being mailed home this week. As today (Jan. 27) is day 93, this means 9 absences would classify your child as chronically absent. For this initial mailing, we drew the threshold at 12 absences or more.
School attendance is required by law, and should not be taken lightly. Every day a student misses their lessons at school, they can fall further behind their classmates resulting in greater struggles over time. Over time, the impact on learning can compound into significant gaps. These gaps follow students from year to year, and only grow as the absences continue to accrue. Finally, it is the responsibility of the Fowler School to refer excessive unexcused absences to the Framingham Juvenile Court.
We understand that there is almost always context to be considered when it comes to excessive student absences. I welcome the opportunity to talk through the situation with you. If you have any questions please call the main office at (978) 897-6700.
Respectfully,
Mike Barth
Principal
Last night, Sra. Soler hosted a family forum on Maynard's Spanish Immersion Program. The event was well attended! The showcase video and student presentations were AMAZING!

GREEN MEADOW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECT
The Green Meadow Elementary School project team has submitted its second MSBA submission! This submission is called the Preferred Schematic Report (PSR) and it advances the initial existing conditions verification, educational visioning & programming and Owner / Community coordination into multiple design alternatives, shows MSBA the design alternative evaluation process taken by the project team, and highlights which design alternative was ultimately selected at the end of the process.
Below is a link to a Google Drive folder that contains the previous Preliminary Design Program (PDP) submission as well as the recent PSR submission. As always, we thank you very much for your attention to the project, and we’ll continue to keep you informed as the project moves along the MSBA process!
