Mission Trail Elementary
Sunday Update for May 2, 2021
Good morning MTE families,
I am the luckiest principal I know! Wow, thank you for all the love and support for Principal’s Day! I was able to use the Family Tree gift card from our families, via PTO, to buy some beautiful flowers for my deck and a phlox for my yard! I love my bulldog mask and the children enjoyed seeing it on Friday! Thank you, thank you!
Bulldog Bolt is almost here! It will be a fun way to get outside, enjoy some exercise and support our school!
With the spring weather changing so quickly, I did want to remind that in the event of significant lightning, we do have a DIFFERENT dismissal system. The carline will move to the front circle for drop off OR for pickup if there is significant lightning. If we have lightning, the office will text all families as soon as the decision is made. I am hopeful we will NOT need to use this new procedure, as I anticipate it may take longer. Here is a description of the NEW process that was sent at the beginning of the year.
In the event of lightning at arrival or dismissal this year, the car line will be moved to the FRONT CIRCLE DRIVE.
LIGHTNING ARRIVAL –
If the weather in the morning has lightning, and it is unsafe for students, parents, and staff to wait outside we will move our arrival to the front circle drive. WE WILL TEXT AND EMAIL if this occurs. This decision will be made at the last minute due to conditions that rapidly change. We have never done this before and ask for your cooperation and patience to get the students in as quickly as possible. After dropping your child off in the circle drive, you must TURN RIGHT out of the circle drive. NO LEFT TURNS out of the circle drive.
The front circle will NOT be open to cars prior to the text going out to the community.
LIGHTNING DISMISSAL
· Walkers and bike riders will not be excused until lightning has passed the area.
· All students will remain in their classrooms and be called to the front drive when their car/bus/daycare van is in the circle and the students will load their car directly in front the awning.
· As cars leave the front circle, we ask that they only exit the circle drive by turning right. We request no left turns out of the front circle drive during inclement weather pickup.
It is my hope that will never need to use this procedure. I recognize this situation can make for frustrating time delays and cause disruptions to schedules. The parents who are positioned to be first in the regular car line will have to go around and get in the other car line.
Our first priority is to always keep students and staff safe, and we will use this only when necessary. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you.
Registration for 2021-2022 school year is now open for all families! Thank you to each family who has registered. If you have not, please DO go on and register as soon as possible. As most of you are aware, our paid enrollment determines teacher placement. The pandemic has affected many families. If you need to work out a payment plan, please contact Mrs. Durham. You can reach her at 913 239-6712 or you can email her at LADurham@bluevalleyk12.org. She will keep all financial information confidential. It is not shared with staff. Even if you cannot fully pay fees, it is important that you still register so we can retain our amazing teachers.
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or celebrations to share – please contact me.
“It is a great day to be a bulldog!”
