Student Placement for 2022-23 School Year
Note: This information was sent to families via ParentSquare on Thursday, November 18th.
Dear OUHSD Families;
As we look ahead to the 2022-23 school year, we want to ensure that we have adequate staffing and support at each of our schools and at our Center for Independent Study (CIS) program so that we can provide students the best education possible.
We realize that the Governor’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate may be causing many of our families to reconsider whether they want their student to attend school in-person next year.
While we are still awaiting answers and direction from the California Department of Public Health regarding next steps, here is what we do know:
- The soonest that the mandate will go into effect is July 2022.
- The mandate allows for personal belief or medical exemptions. We will not be accepting exemption forms until additional direction is established by the state.
While we do not have all of the pieces of information that you may want to have on hand to decide what next steps you would like to take, we need to know what your plan is, assuming that the mandate goes into effect in July. If you are considering enrolling your student at CIS, here is what you need to know:
- An application must be filled out for any student, including students currently enrolled in the program, wishing to enroll at CIS next year. The deadline is January 10, 2022.
CIS Application: https://forms.gle/RLGk8hwcnc1G6416A - Students currently enrolled at CIS will have first priority. All other applications will be processed on a first come, first serve basis.
- CIS students are not required to be vaccinated.
- Students will be required to meet with their teacher one hour per week.
- Students will use the online Edgenuity program to complete their assignments. Exceptions might be made for families with connectivity issues.
- CIS students have historically been able to participate in athletics and extracurricular activities at their home school (LPHS or OHS). However, at this time, we are not aware if unvaccinated students will be able to participate in any programs on campus.
- If you submit an application for CIS and then change your mind, students will be allowed to transfer back to their home school (LPHS or OHS) if there is space available.
We will continue to stay on top of and share the latest developments concerning the COVID-19 vaccine mandate with our families. Vaccine Mandate FAQs can be found at: https://bit.ly/VaccineMandateFAQs
Sincerely,
Dr. Corey Willenberg
Superintendent

Student and Staff Spotlights: New OUHSD Student and Staff Recognition Program
Education has been thrown a lot of curveballs in the past year, and we know that our students are working hard in this transition back to full-time learning, and our staff goes above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that our schools are safe and engaging places for students to learn and thrive.
OUHSD is launching a new district-wide student and staff recognition program called Student and Staff Spotlight to recognize the ways that our students and staff are striving and going above and beyond. Here's how it will work:
- OUHSD Student Spotlight: Students who are making a difference--whether it’s by helping others, reaching higher in their academic and personal pursuits, and more--can be nominated by any OUHSD staff member.
Each month, a drawing from the submitted entries will be held, and those selected will win a gift card to Dutch Bros or Taco Bell, and those not drawn will be eligible for a chance to win in a subsequent month. We will feature the winning entries on our website. The nomination form will be emailed to OUHSD staff. - OUHSD Staff Spotlight: We would like the OUHSD community's help in nominating staff members who are making a difference by helping others. The help may have been a small gesture or a large undertaking; we want to hear all about it! Students, parents, community members and staff can recognize an OUHSD staff member by submitting this form: https://bit.ly/OUHSDStaffSpotlightForm.
Would you like to recognize more than one staff member? No problem! You can fill out this form as many times as you would like. Each month, a drawing from the submitted entries will be held, and those selected will win an OUHSD Yeti Coffee Rambler tumbler and Starbucks gift card, and those not drawn will be eligible for a chance to win in a subsequent month.
We will begin announcing winners in December. We can't wait to see your entries and start sharing more of the wonderful things that our students and staff are doing!
2022-23 School Year Intra-District Transfers
For parents with a current 8th grader: an intra-district transfer letter and form is being mailed this week to the mailing address on file with your middle school. Please make sure that your middle school has your correct home address, mailing address, phone number and email address on file. Your student will default to either LPHS or OHS based on your home address. If you are unsure which school zone you live in, you can look up your street on this list. The deadline to submit a transfer request is January 10th. Transfers received after the deadline will go onto a waiting list and there is no guarantee it will be approved.
