NEW Athletic/Activity Information from Melissa Corcoran
I hope this email finds you and your family doing well. I want to communicate information that applies to our students who are interested in our fall athletics and activities. This email will also provide you an opportunity to express interest to our coaches and directors so they may begin planning for the kickoff of their program. Please note, we are asking for you to fill out the form below even if you did in the Spring. Our coaches and directors will build their CANVAS course off of the newest feedback we receive.
Athletics:
We are excited to announce that we will be able to begin our athletic programs this fall! This would include football, volleyball, cross country and cheerleading. Whether your child is participating “In Person” or “Virtual” learning, they are welcome to participate at Leawood Middle School!
Our programs will begin with a virtual parent meeting on September 8th at 3:15. During these meetings you will have an opportunity to meet the coaches, hear of the special considerations/modifications to keep athletes, coaches and spectators safe, receive game and meet dates as well as an opportunity for Q&A. We want families to know that with our safety modifications, we were able to schedule six football games, eight volleyball games, three cross country meets and cheerleaders will cheer at the football games of their homeschool.
Please remember the requirement of our “BV Athletic Participation Packet/Physical” must be completed after May 1, 2020 and on file prior to the beginning of our first practice, September 9, 2020. Click here if you need to access this paperwork for your athlete(s). To lessen the traffic in our building, we will collect hard copies on the first day of school.
Activities:
At this time, before and after school Clubs are still in consideration for this year. However, we are waiting to receive more clarity from the District as to what they will look like. If we are able to have our fall play, students who are enrolled in “Virtual Learning” will be able to participate. Please note, this is a change to what is traditional planned at Leawood. Due to safety modifications, we plan to schedule our musical, open to grades 6-8 during the second semester.
To begin the planning process, please communicate using the Google Form below if you are interested in participating in a program at LMS this fall.
In addition, please know these plans are contingent upon information and orders shared from our local and state officials. We look forward to having your child(ren) getting involved this fall! Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions at mcorcoran02@bluevalleyk12.org.
