School District 622
December 22, 2020 - Elementary Learning Model Update
Dear 622 Elementary Families,
I am writing to update you on our plan to bring our elementary school students back into our school buildings. As you know, last week, Governor Tim Walz announced new guidelines that now allow us to begin bringing preschool and elementary grades back to ‘in-person’ classes at the end of January. Based on the Governor’s guidance, all elementary grades cannot start on the same dates, so please refer to the schedule below for specific information.
Kindergarten-Grade 2
January 4-22: Distance Learning (three days for teacher preparation to be announced - no school)
January 18: No School, Martin Luther King Jr. Day
January 25: In-person classes resume
Grade 3-5
January 4-February 5: Distance Learning (three days for teacher preparation to be announced-no school)
January 18: No School, Martin Luther King Jr. Day
February 8: In-person classes resume
We are truly excited to welcome our elementary students back to school in-person. In preparation, we have implemented additional safety measures. School staff will now be wearing both a facemask and a face shield and we will host on-site COVID testing every two weeks. We have also purchased high-powered air purifiers for all of our learning spaces. Additional safety protocols are underway for buses and mealtimes as well.
In the in-person learning scenario (full days, 5 days/week), all students are required to wear masks, but there is no longer a requirement for elementary students to be physically distanced during the day.
Please take a moment and respond to this survey by Monday, December 28, 2020 to indicate whether your child will choose in-person learning or distance learning. Please note that due to staffing considerations, your child’s teacher may change. If you have a preschool-aged student, you will receive a separate communication from the early childhood staff.
