Centennial Middle School

Letter from Principal Rosenbach
Dear Centennial Families,
We are off and running into the second semester. Already three weeks in and a long weekend is just around the corner. I hope that everyone is able to spend some time with friends and family resting, recuperating, and rejuvenating. It has also been great to see some more sunlight hours, which I know will help out students as it gets brighter earlier in the day.
Our next newsletter will include more details on fall class registration for our current 7th graders. To our 8th grade families, please be on the lookout for important dates and times for both students and families to learn about the registration process, coming to you from Snohomish High School.
You are all invited to watch our bands preform on Tuesday, February 21st for their winter concert. The show starts at 7:00 p.m. in the CMS gym. Our girls basketball team begin their games today, February 15th and the co-ed wrestling has their first match next week. Come on out and enjoy watching our students compete. Lastly, I hope the sun shines throughout the long weekend, and everyone enjoys the break. We will see all our students back on Tuesday the 21st.
Sincerely,
Josh Rosenbach

A Note from the CMS Librarian...
- S.O.S. - We are getting a lot of damage to books & laptops due to water bottles in backpacks. Reusable water bottles can cause screen damage & laptop casing damage when bumped heavily against the laptop. And we have lost a number of library books due to water bottles either leaking or opening in backpacks. Please remind students to be thoughtful about how they pack their bags each day. Preventing computer and laptop damage will help save families money so replacment fees do not have to be administered.
- School laptops often receive updates that need to be ran. We are encouraging students to get in the habit of restarting their machines & when they see the updates, they can click on the option to "update & restart" to have it begin the process.
- Lost charging cords: every student who has checked out a laptop from the school was issued a charging cord for the device the day it was checked out to them. Name tag labels were given to each student to label their charging cord. If a cord gets lost, a replacement fee is $25.00.

Students to receive Panorama survey in spring
We will again be asking our 3rd through 12th grade students to participate in the Panorama survey for social-emotional learning. This survey was given to students last school year and in the fall 2022.
Panorama helps schools and districts transform their approach to education, so that every student thrives in school, every student benefits from an excellent education, and every student graduates prepared with the knowledge, skills, and mindsets they need to thrive in the modern, ever-changing world. Through our work to improve education, we help create a world where every child has equitable access to opportunities in school and in society more broadly. Panorama is a tool used by the district in conjunction with multiple other resources, such as attendance, behavior, grades, etc.
For elementary, the Panorama questions center on their current knowledge, how they feel about the school environment, and whether they have access to staff and resources to feel safe and successful. For secondary, the questions center on the same areas and further explore whether students feel they have the skills, opportunity, or ability for personal and academic growth along with social awareness and positive relationships. The survey window will be open during February. Survey results will be available in March after the survey window closes. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's principal.
Our goal as a district and community is to ensure that each student feels safe, welcomed, and supported in our schools and while attending school activities. The information provided through this survey is one tool we can use to hear student voice and perspective. Other considerations will continue to include conversations with students, families, and staff along with monitoring of academic progress and social-emotional awareness. It is ok to not feel ok, but please know that there is help and support so that it does not have to remain that way.
