Message from Dr. David Sharp
Dear BVNW Community,
Happy Veterans Day! On this chilly Friday, let’s pause to celebrate our outstanding staff and students who continue to represent our community in various ways, and we are so proud of all their accomplishments. This week, our Unified Bowling Team placed 2nd in Tuesday’s meet and will be headed to state! Congrats to the athletes & coaches!! Also, we honor the 76 choir, band, and orchestra students who earned placement in this year's East-Central Kansas Music Educators’ all-district choirs, orchestras, or bands last Saturday! A special thank you to BVNW staff Beth Richey-Sullivan, Mike Arbucci, Daniel Kirk, and Kenneth Tysick, who took students on Saturday and helped prepare them.
This week, BVNW DECA competed at Leavenworth High School on Monday, and of the 33 NW students, 24 placed in the top three spots! Thanks to Megan Trader and Erin Izzo, who supported these students. Additionally, we had 621 students who learned that they earned an academic letter this week. Academic letters are awarded by demonstrating exemplary academic performance during both semesters of the 2021-2022 school year. Recognition is received during the following school year.
Furthermore, congratulations to BVNW teachers Jeremy Mohn, Mary McCabe, Heidi Gipple, Amanda Witty, and Jenna Hoing for earning Blue Valley Educational Foundation grants to support student learning! Finally, we sincerely appreciate your partnership and ongoing support of BVNW.
With respect and gratitude,
David

2nd Semester Schedule Change Requests for Grades 9-12
Student schedules for 2nd semester are available now in both Student and Parent Vue.
Here’s how you can access your 2nd semester schedule:
- Go to Student Vue or Parent Vue
- Click the “Class Schedule” tab on the left
- On the top right, click “Semester 2”
It is common for student schedules to change slightly, based on 2nd semester elective classes. For example, a student may have English 9 first hour now and it may move to 3rd hour 2nd semester. Students should not submit schedule change requests for this particular issue.
If a student requests to drop a class at the start of 2nd semester (after the semester has begun), a “W” (withdrawal) will be recorded on their transcript. Per district policy, students may withdraw from a course no later than the 11th week of the semester. After the 11th week, students are required to remain in the class.
Students are expected to follow the schedule change request protocol in order to request a 2nd semester schedule change.
Here’s the link for more information on our schedule change request process.
BVNW Administration kindly ask you to submit your Google Form to request your schedule change and limit emails to counselors (in addition to submitting the form) so they can address requests in a timely manner! Of course, we always encourage you to reach out if you need help for a different reason outside of this process.
Thank you for your understanding and support in following the guidelines listed above, to ensure the most efficient process for everyone.
Sincerely,
BVNW Administration & Counseling Team

1st Semester Finals Schedule & Final Exam Guidelines
With the start of 2nd quarter this week, we wanted to share information regarding 1st semester final exams, which occur in December right before Winter Break-December 16th, 19th, & 20th. Please note that students are dismissed from school early these 3 days (please see the finals schedule for details). These are important days for students to be at school to successfully finish 1st semester.
Here are the final exam guidelines:
A culminating activity (final exam, unit exam, final paper, final project or reflection of learning) will be given in all classes. Students will be advised of the format to be used in each class by their teacher. No final exams will be given early (before December 16th, 2022) without administrative approval. If a student must miss a final due to illness or a prearranged absence, they will be required to make it up when they return (no later than January 18th).
There will be additional information sent home later this semester regarding the procedure for prearranged absences and final exams.

CAPS Open Houses! We highly encourage students and parent/guardian to attend an open house if you are interested in enrolling for CAPS during high school. Before considering scheduling 3 hours of your school day for CAPS and make an informed decision before the February 2023 enrollment window opens, it is in your best interest to have talked to instructors and seen the programs in person. It is big commitment to consider in your schedule! Students must wait until junior or senior year to possibly have it fit in their schedule and be eligible with remaining graduation credits.
