What's the Buzz - October 23, 2022
Message from Mrs. D and Miss Nancy
You may wonder: What’s the difference between a mill levy and a bond. The easiest way to think about it is that “Levies” are for Learning and “Bonds” are for Buildings. Levies fund library books, curriculum, staffing, building operation and maintenance and improvements. Bonds are for new buildings and major renovations. The Weather is Changing
As the weather is changing, it is the desire of the school that students get outside as much as possible. Please visit our FAQs (or click here) for more information about outside and inside recesses.

King Soopers Rewards
As you shop at your “favorite” local store, did you know that 2% of your purchases could be donated to Southlawn? The steps are easy. To begin, click here.
If you have families and friends who shop at the following stores: Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Foods Co., Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Gerbes, Jay C Food Store, Kroger, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay-Less Super Markets, Pick’n Save, QFC, Ralphs, Ruler and Smith’s Food and Drug, 2% of their purchases can also be donated to Southlawn. Even if they are in another state! They only need to be registered here in Colorado at King Soopers. If they apply for their King Soopers card here in Colorado, their purchases at any of these stores will qualify. Spread the word. It’s that easy!
We Need You!
The new school year is well underway but like many other school districts, businesses and organizations, we’re facing very severe staffing shortages.
27J Schools is appealing to all parents, grandparents, retirees, neighbors and friends to seriously consider stepping into the role of substitute teaching, support staff, bus drivers and nutrition. We will provide the necessary training. Some positions offer flexible schedules and can be arranged for parents to have time to take children to and from school while still working a shift. Several employee categories provide FREE healthcare, life and dental insurance coverage, plus they qualify for retirement benefits.
Just another quick note - you may limit accepting positions only at the schools your student attends. It's truly a win:win. To begin the process, click here.

Presenting Our Curiosity Center
We have awesome news! As you know, our enrollment has grown exponentially! With that development we have the opportunity to open a third (yes, third) specials class. As we grew up, the room with all of the books and research at our fingertips was called the “Library.” We have selected a special name - the “Curiosity Center.” Why? Readers of print books absorb and remember more of the plot than readers of e-books. The imagination, the knowledge and the curiosity grows with each book a student physically reads.
Readers score higher in the areas such as empathy, immersion in the book, and understanding of the narrative. We are excited to announce we will be opening our Curiosity Center! After much time and effort seeking the best qualified candidate for our librarian position, we would like to introduce our students to Miss Deb. Be sure to watch for more information.
