Centennial Middle School

Letter from Principal Rosenbach
Hello Centennial Families,
As we approach the end of the year and the holidays, I am reminded every day how fortunate I am to work in Snohomish and specifically Centennial. From the welcoming and nurturing staff to the energetic and inquisitive students, the supportive parents, and the school community as a whole, CMS is surrounded by great energy and support. I want to deeply thank all of you for the support you give your students, the school, and the Snohomish School District.
We have a busy week ahead as we near winter break. Please take a look through the entire newsletter as there is a lot of great information that will be helpful to you and your student. This newsletter is our primary way of communicating with families and we try to consistently send it out every two weeks, it is important that you read the message in its entirety so you are informed and ready for upcoming events.
I hope each and every one of you has a safe and happy holidays and are able to spend some time with friends and family. I also hope the students are able to rest and relax over break and come back rejuvenated.
Happy Holidays to the CMS community,
Josh Rosenbach

Transportation Update and Clarification: Student Scan Cards
Students to receive scan cards to ride the bus
To accompany our district's conversion to the Traversa Ride 360 program, all district students will be receiving a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) scan card, which will act as their ID when riding the bus during the 2022-2023 school year. These scan ridership cards will be distributed to every student throughout the school year. Distribution of the scan ridership cards at Centennial Middle School have begun and will continue until each bus rider has a card.
At each bus stop, the driver will be able see a display of the names and photos of students assigned to that stop so they can confirm that the correct students are boarding or getting off the bus. We recommend the zip reels and card be attached to the right side of their backpacks. Please note that these scan cards are not trackers. No student information is stored on these cards, and they are not used to track a student’s location. The school buses are used to locate students while on the route. The student RFID cards simply help to accelerate the process of recording student check-ins while also mitigating errors. Knowing where and when a student is during a bus route is paramount to ensuring the safety of every child in real-time. Click here to download a handout for parents/guardians with more information about scan ridership cards.
What Is Traversa Ride 360?
Traversa Ride 360 provides secure access to student routing information. Traversa Ride 360 provides quick access to your child's routing information, which can include the bus stop, route, and bus number. This is accessible on mobile devices, and confidential and secure. This program can be accessed via the web or mobile app and is free to download and use. The user guide can be downloaded by clicking one of the links below:
- How to access the Traversa Ride 360 website - English

Commonly Asked Question:
1. Do they need the card to get on the bus?
NO.
Transportation is still passing these cards out, so if your student has not received one yet, please just ride your bus as normal. The card is not actually a "pass" to ride.
2. Who will give them out?
Transportation via bus drivers, or at school lunch when transportation comes to hand them out.
3. What if they break?
Ask a bus driver for a new one. We do not have supplies at this time to replace these.
Remember to power up before school
Holiday Assistance and Donations
There are many resources available to our community and we would love to help connect families in need to these supplies. With the holidays upon us, we are very aware that some families may need assistance to make the season bright. If you or your family might have a need, we would like the opportunity to help. Please reach out to our school student support advocate:

Donations:
Also, if you would like to donate to help families this season, please feel free to support our community by offering gift cards in $25 increments to places like grocery stores, or multipurpose stores. This allows families to buy groceries, gifts, and gas freely with one card. We appreciate your care and support for others. Helping others is a gift in itself. If you are planning to donate, please reach out to Chynna Loeffler as well.
Why does attendance even matter?
- Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause students to fall behind in school.
- Missing 10% can make it harder to learn to read.
- Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two every few weeks.
- Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
- Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help catch students up.
