Dr. Hudson's Weekly Message
January 31, 2022
Dear Longhorn Nation,
Winter Weather Chances
State and local weather experts are forecasting a chance for snow or ice in our area Wednesday night into Thursday. We want to remind all families and staff how and when school cancellations are shared with staff, families and the community.
The CHISD Superintendent makes the final decision on whether to cancel classes & activities due to inclement weather.
The CHISD communications department shares school cancellation information via email, phone calls, text messages, social media, push notification via the mobile app, website and local news outlets.
In the event of potential winter weather, District officials start assessing road conditions at 4:00 a.m. This includes specific staff members driving bus routes and trouble spots.
District leaders use forecast information from local and national weather experts, area road conditions and speak with neighboring districts to help make a decision.
School cancellation or delay decisions are made on a case by case basis after district officials assess any impact on district operations.
This decision will be made by 5:30 a.m. CHISD communications will share the information with the Cedar Hill community.
The CHISD communications department only notifies families of cancellations. The district will NOT send notices confirming we are having classes, use the rule : no news is good news.
Congrats Coach Collins & the Varsity Lady Longhorns
Cedar Hill head girls basketball coach Nicole Collins won her 250th career game – a 59-31 victory over Mansfield Lake Ridge. The win came almost exactly two years after her 200th career victory, which was also against Lake Ridge.
Holdsworth Update
Cedar Hill ISD was one of just three ISDs in the Metroplex selected for the five year program and one of six in Texas, out of 43 districts that applied.
CHISD is so grateful for the opportunity to work with The Holdsworth Center. Just a few months into the partnership, we have already gained valuable knowledge with regards to retaining, promoting and leading our staff to growth opportunities.
One of the first priorities is creating a district-wide leadership definition. In order to do that, Holdsworth created a steering committee of central office employees and campus principals, along with an input group made up of teachers, campus administrators and support staff. Holdsworth also sent a district-wide survey regarding leadership.
CCMR - What is it and why is it important?
The Cedar Hill High School College and Career Center serves as one of the vehicles through which we equip our scholars for life after high school graduation. Services provided through the college and career center are designed to expose our students to the numerous opportunities available and assist them in planning a path to college, a career or the military.
FORKLIFT OPERATING LICENSE
Twelve Cedar Hill High School Welding Scholars earned their OSHA Forklift Operator License last Friday at On Target Supplies and Logistics in Dallas. Upon completion of their certification, scholars will be entered into a database with On Target, which will make them eligible for jobs when they graduated from Cedar Hill High School.
NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK
We are asking all CHISD staff, parents and students to participate in this week’s photo Challenge for National School Counseling Week The 2022 theme is School Counseling: Better Together. Check out the lineup of events for the week. This week-long celenbration focuses public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems.
STEMspired Update:
Lake Ridge Elementary hosted a STEM Family Night last Wednesday, and Collegiate Prep hosted a STEMSpired Club Facebook Live last Friday, highlighting the campus’ STEM extracurricular activities.
The Cedar Hill ISD Education Foundation has been selected to receive one Texas Instruments Foundation Innovations in STEM Teaching Award. We are happy to introduce the inaugural campaign to identify the STEM Teacher of the Year for CHISD.
The winning teacher will receive a $10,000 cash prize, of which $5,000 is designated for the winning teacher to use as he/she wishes. The remaining $5,000 is to be used for STEM related professional development, technology, and/or classroom materials on the teacher’s campus.
