We hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
AMS Thespians
The Alma Middle School thespian troupe has been hard at work lately! This past weekend they attended two Festivals: The State One-Act Festival and The State Junior Thespian Festival. Audra Bosnick, Theatre Teacher and Thespian Junior Troupe Director, was complimented on their talent and skills, as well as their attitudes and manners. We all have every reason to be proud of these students!
At the One-Act Festival on Friday, students received the highest ranking of Superior. They were the only middle/junior high students chosen to Showcase at the State Jr. Festival. The judges were so impressed by the performance that they pulled Audra aside to recommend that they also Showcase at the State Sr. Festival in February! The troupe had 3 All-State Cast Members: Isabella Chapen, Morgan English, and Drake Norris. All-State Crew Members: Rhylie Jo Price. They also received special recognition for Projection and Sound Design.
At the State Jr. Thespian Festival, the troupe had several Superiors and 3 of them were chosen to Showcase. Those chosen were Morgan English, Solo Musical; Braxton DeLude and Brenna Morris, Duet Acting; and Evan Carlson and Drake Norris, Short Film. The Duet Acting and the Short Film were the only students in their respective events asked to Showcase! As a whole, no one in the troupe scored lower than an Excellent. Wow, what an accomplishment!
See below for a recap of the rankings.

Feast of Books
The Alma High School Library is getting creative by hosting Book Tastings for the English classes. Students have the chance to 'sample' new books in order to get a taste for what they want to read next. So, how exactly do you "taste" a book? You simply follow the menu provided that guides you through the various features of books such as the title, author, back cover, and dust jacket/summary. The students also give a rating once the tasting is complete.
The tastings have been a great way to get students more involved while visiting the library and will continue after students return from Thanksgiving Break!
Over the years, Airedale Theatre has been graced with an abundance of talented, solid performers who become anchors to the department. Senior Gentry Sneed is no exception; in fact, she is exceptional! First impressions tell you that Gentry is a free spirit, but when it comes to the stage, she has razor-sharp focus and a professional attitude.
She carries a leading role in ELF as the quintessential mom - Emily Hobbs, and she fits perfectly into the cast dynamic.

RISE Arkansas
R.I.S.E. (Reading Initiative for Student Excellence) Arkansas encourages a culture of reading by coordinating a statewide reading campaign with community partners, parents, and teachers to establish the importance of reading in homes, schools, and communities. This initiative is facilitated through the Arkansas Department of Education Division of Elementary and Secondary Education. The goals of R.I.S.E. are as follows:
Goal 1: Sharpen the focus and strengthen instruction.
Goal 2: Create community collaboration.
Goal 3: Build a culture of reading!
Because of R.I.S.E., the focus on reading progression for your child has shifted from determining your child’s reading level to determining what skills they need to read with fluency and comprehension.
