SCS Weekly Newsletter: 10/7/22
It's October Already?
From the Principal's Desk: Looking back on the start of school, and asking a favor.
October is also going to be a fast month- I can feel it already, but it will be an important one. We have created space in teachers' schedules so that single-grade teachers (K,1,2/3, and so on) are able to meet weekly or bi-weekly with our academic interventionist, Lili Foster, to discuss specific areas of student need and how we can address those. Some staff members have begun offering different opportunities at different times of the day for student enrichment (like Eileen Gombosi in our Art room, creating great work with students during lunch), and students have been sharing stories of their extracurriculars with us everyday, whether it's horseback riding, club baseball, goose hunting, football, gymnastics- you name it.
With that in mind, I have a request: I think it would be fun to highlight some of the interesting and diverse things our Salisbury students do OUTSIDE of school- I think this could inspire other students, and also teach us all a bit more about each other- so please consider sending me a picture or two of a student doing something they enjoy outside of school. Maybe it's dancing! Maybe they love to swim! Maybe they play hockey, or show animals! Maybe they play the ukelele! Whatever the activity or hobby is, it would be fun to share some pictures in next week's newsletter.
Please share any pictures you'd like with me at bsears@acsdvt.org. A note on who the child is, and what the activity is, would be great!
Thanks so much! Have a great week!

Spotlight on Foodservice:
Panarama Surveys: learning more so we can help.
As parents, teachers, and caregivers, we know that social emotional learning (SEL) is crucial for our students’ success in school and in life. To support this learning, we first need to understand how students are doing. A group of teachers and administrators identified a research-backed SEL measurement tools and selected the Panorama surveys. We will use the data we collect with this assessment to reflect on student learning and strengthen our programs and instruction to help all students succeed.
In October, we will provide an initial survey to our K-12 students that will ask them to self-reflect on skills related to self-management, self-awareness, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness. We ask that all students participate, because their feedback will provide valuable insights to help us improve and adapt our district to support all students. Please notify us if you wish to opt your child out of taking the survey by emailing Donna Simpson at dsimpson@acsdvt.org with your child’s name, grade, and class by October 21st 2022.
Thank you in advance for supporting this important work. If you have any questions please contact Bjarki Sears, Salisbury Principal )bsears@acsdvt.org; 802-898- 8069), or Caitlin Steele, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning (csteele@acsdvt.org; 820-382-1276)
