Campus Remains Closed
Dear Scholars, Caregivers and Staff,
We hope this communication finds you safe and well. Out of an abundance of caution, City University Schools' campus will be closed to scholars, alumni-scholars and guests on Monday, January 22, 2024.
Due to days of freezing weather Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) has experienced multiple line breaks which has resulted in a significant loss of pressure to the drinking water system in Memphis and Shelby County. Water main breaks and loss of water pressure may introduce disease-causing bacteria into the water system.
Those organisms including bacteria, viruses, and parasites can cause gastrointestinal distress including nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and headache, according to Shelby County Health Department.
As a result, MLGW customers are now under a boil water advisory. Families are asked to use bottled water or follow the instructions, found below, to boil tap water to make it safe for drinking, cooking and brushing teeth.
In addition, MLGW has provided a Boil Water Do’s and Don’ts
Returning to Campus
All schools must comply with the boil water advisory and use bottled or boiled water for food and beverage preparation to operate safely in accordance with Tennessee Law.
When scholars return to campus, they are advised to bring their own water to school as water fountains will not be accessible. Although box lunches will be provided to scholars throughout the advisory, scholars (and staff) are also advised bring their own lunch from home.
Administrators, faculty and staff will be required to return to campus on Monday, January 22, 2024 in order to begin preparations for our scholars. As we have been out of school for a week, due to unforeseen circumstances, we will work to ensure that we are prepared to address learning loss and other effects of the inclement weather emergency.
Scholar Engagement
Our faculty, staff, and administrators continue to ensure scholars are actively engaged in learning while the campus is closed.
Scholars can access instructional materials by logging into each of their classes via their respective Google Classroom page.
Professors will award extra points for all assignments completed with mastery (as determined by professors).
In addition, professors will have office hours to offer scholars support and assistance with their assignments. Please see the schedule of office hours and corresponding Google codes below.
Please stay safe and ensure the continued well-being of your family at this time and beyond.
If you have any questions, throughout the day relevant to academic engagement, please do not hesitate to reach out to Equan Ashe, Managing Director of Schools, via email at eashe@cityuniversityschool.org.
