The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award is Illinois’ readers' choice award for students in grades 4-8. RCYRBA Board members will share book talks for the 2023 list of nominees and share ideas to help promote the program and books to your students. You'll also learn about the role of our evaluators and how you can get involved to help select our future lists. (REGISTER HERE)

This summer, Readers' Choice volunteers will a be creating fabulous resources ready in time for fall to support your program implementation. These resources include bookmarks, presentations, curriculum guides, trivia, first lines, and more. Access to the resources is included as part of your $10 Readers' Choice registration fee. School Librarians of the Western Suburbs is open to anyone interested. In the past SLOWS represented school librarians in Cook, DuPage, Kane counties. Fall Conference Update:
The AISLE 2022 Conference Steering Committee is excited to share updates over the next months about the exciting programming and professional development opportunities during the conference in Tinley Park, November 3-5, 2022. On Thursday, November 3 we have three-hour pre-conference sessions in the morning and afternoon. We are excited to announce that IL school librarian and local author John Schu will be presenting on Thursday afternoon about Best Books for Elementary. John Schu is available to do school assemblies during the week preceding the 2022 AISLE conference! He typically does two presentations/day, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, and usually targets 3rd-5th graders. He is available all days the week of 10/31/22, except Thursday, 11/3/22.
Here's an overview:
Student Reading Assemblies: During in-person school visits, John Schu will booktalk must-read titles, share what it means to be a reader and a writer, discuss how stories can change us, inspire us, connect us to others, answer our deepest questions, and help us heal.
This program includes 250 Bookelicious bookmarks with children’s book title recommendations from the program
Your choice of: 50 copies of John Schu’s new hardcover picture book, This Is a School OR 100 copies of the trade paperback edition of The One and Only Ivan
Program price: $2,500

PLEASE NOTE: Due to a technical glitch, the submission button on the application site for the Exemplary School Library Award was not functioning until April 28.. We are so sorry for the inconvenience, but need to ask that you resubmit your application and materials for this award if you had one so before the 28th. Our committee is excited to read about all of the great libraries we know are in the state of Illinois.
