Newly Released Advocacy Guide
Starting in August, promote your library on social media using the monthly themes listed. Sample text is provided, beginning with "Did you know your school librarian..." August's prompt is: "...is a #literacyadvocate and helps students connect with books they want to read? What was one of your #favoritesummerbooks ?" Post by the 15th of each month and use photos (if allowed) and data to share your story!
Feed Your Need Grant Window Open
The LBSS Endowment Fund is sponsoring another round of “Feed Your Need” grants this fall.
This grant is only available to school librarians who are AISLE members. AISLE members who are grant recipients will receive $1500 each to provide non-fiction materials to assist in meeting Common Core expectations for their school libraries. Applications will be accepted August 1-September 30. Applicants will be notified no later than November 15th. The application form, and guidelines including rubrics are available on the LBSS website:
FREE GRANT WRITING WORKSHOPS
Complete a grant application in a single day on August 10 (in Effingham) or August 11 (in LaSalle) The Library Book Selection Service (LBSS) Endowment Fund and the library systems invite school and small public library directors to a free grant-writing workshop. Members of the review committee for the LBSS Endowment Grant for the Illinois Reader's Choice Program will guide participants through the LBSS grant drafting and application process; participants will learn grant-writing best practices, as well as the characteristics of a winning LBSS grant application. Laptops are required for this workshop.

The application period for the AISLE Polestar, Innovative Programming, and Administrator of the Year Awards is now open! More information about the awards can be found at www.aisled.org.
- The Polestar Award is given to honor members of AISLE who have made outstanding contributions to school library media programs in Illinois. More information can be found at: https://www.aisled.org/polestar.htm.
- The Innovative Programming Award is given annually to recognize a school library’s achievement in planning and implementing an innovative or creative event or service which has made a measurable positive impact on its users. - The Administrator of the Year Award is given to recognize the support of a school library program by a building or district level school administrator during the previous school calendar year. More information can be found at: https://www.aisled.org/administrator.htm.

REALChapter Fun!
A group of retirees met at the Blue Dog Inn in Lincoln for an enjoyable lunch and informative program about hydrangeas provided by master gardener, Debra Aper. We learned about different types of hydrangeas along with tips for planting and care of these gorgeous perennials.
