AISLE WINS ILLINOISAN OF THE YEAR AWARD
CONFERENCE VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT
We are looking for volunteers to assist at this year's conference: AISLE A.C.T. November 3-5, 2022 at the Tinley Park Convention Center. If you are interested in volunteering at our conference, please fill out this form with all of your choices. An AISLE rep will contact you soon to confirm your volunteer assignment. Mary Jo Matousek, Retired, Presented with the AISLE Past-President Pin to recognize her leadership and service to the organization during her tenure as President.
Christy Semande, District Librarian, Canton USD #66, Winner of the AISLE Polestar Award recognizing a member of the Association who has made outstanding contributions to school library media programs in Illinois.
Tutorial Retreats at Chiddix Junior High School , Michelle Glatt, Librarian, McLean County Unit District #5, Winner of the Innovative School Library Program recognizing a school library media center’s achievement in planning and implementing an innovative or creative service which has a measurable impact on users.
Kathryn Heeke and Trish Murphy, LaGrange School District #105, Winner of the AISLE Administrator of the Year Award recognizing the meritorious support of a school library program by a building or district level school administrator or team of administrators.
Honor Award Recipients These special honor awards are designed to honor and recognize individuals for distinguished and exceptional service or contributions to AISLE and/or the library community. The awards are unique in that they are initiated by a member of the Leadership Team, are highly selective, and given only at the discretion of the Board.
Leslie Forsman, Triopia CUSD #27, Recipient of the AISLE Lifetime Membership Award honoring an individual for faithful and exceptional service to the Association.
Wamecca Rodriguez, Yorkville Middle School, Recipient of the AISLE School Librarian of the Year Award recognizing outstanding service and leadership contributions to the organization, the school library profession or a school library in Illinois during the previous school calendar year.
Elizabeth Pippin, Clara Peterson Elementary, Recipient of the AISLE First Page Award recognizing the contributions of a member within the first five years of membership for service to the organization and contribution to librarianship in Illinois.
Ingram, Brette Dorris, Senior Sales Representative - Midwest, Recipients of the AISLE Pillar Award recognizing an exhibit vendor(s) for their continued support of the organization, of school libraries or of school library professionals.

CCB to host events centered on Asian American history

The School Library Censorship Summit January 9, 2023 at Illinois State University.
This summit will be focused on coming together as a community of school libraries to address the current landscape of censorship and book banning in the state and learning methods to promote intellectual freedom.
Areas of focus will include:
- Responding to official challenges
- Addressing collection concerns with stakeholders
- Writing and editing collection development and reconsideration policies
- Self-censorship
- Educating parents on collection-related issues
At the event you can expect a keynote speaker, a panel presentation, active work time in groups, and more.

GOT NEWS? ADVOCATE SUBMISSION DEADLINE 11/15
The next AISLE Advocate newsletter deadline is November 15, 2022. Members are encouraged to submit articles or member news items to newsletter@aisled.org. The types of articles appropriate for the newsletter range from short features, how-to’s, or practical advice to long-form features or case studies. Compelling personal stories and opinion pieces are welcome along with real-world experience, analysis or research. AISLE members seek content that is useful and relevant. Submissions should offer value in the form of information, ideas, best practices, tips, advice, or resources. Please include any figures, pictures, or images needed to accompany your article. It is expected that you will cite sources and include references as needed.
Member news items might include retirements, promotions, or staff changes. What projects are you working on? What’s new in your library? What are your students going crazy for? Let’s keep our membership in touch with each other. Selected responses will be published.
